Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Aerospace Space Domain Superiority Directorate, in the Special Programs Division, supports a broad array of Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power missions covering the entire threat response chain from the Space Domain Awareness function through the multidomain effects needed for space superiority. These programs include major system acquisitions for multiple ground and space segments, future architecture definition at the data/software/hardware levels, and research and technology for continuous evolution of space warfighting capabilities. The Enterprise Engineering and Technology Futures department provides mission-level analysis, engineering, integration, and test support throughout the Space Domain Awareness, Combat Power and Battle Management, Command, Control and Communications portfolios. Then end-goal is to deliver a complete end-to-end capability to disrupt space threats and protect the space enterprise.

Work Model

This position requires 100% on site work in El Segundo, California.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as the technical lead for a Mission Integrated Product Team (IPT) to deliver a multi-system, integrated space warfighting capability to operational end-users
  • Develop engineering products that define mission-level requirements, decompose into functional and performance requirements, and test plans to evaluate mission effectiveness to defeat space threats
  • Plan and manage technical execution of modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts by support technical staff (ETG)
  • Manage capability integration across the lifecycle, including interfacing with acquisition, test, operations, and COCOM stakeholders to build common baselines, manage risks, and create common products across all mission stakeholders
  • Plan and participate in exercise events, experiments, and program test and evaluation efforts that support capability fielding readiness
  • Engage in regular working groups with other mission partner organizations to support enterprise integration across mission areas, programs, and across the National Security Space community

What You Need to be Successful – Project Engineer – Enterprise Systems Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical subject area
  • 8 or more years of professional experience in a relevant field, including experience support National Security Space missions
  • Track record of working successfully as part of integrated multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in systems and/or missions engineering methodologies, processes, and technical product development
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interactions at all levels of corporate and government leadership
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI government security clearance and willingness to submit to additional clearances, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the Sr. Project Engineer – Enterprise Systems Engineering requires the following:

  • 12 or more years of professional experience in a relevant field and 10 or more years of experience supporting National Security Space mission
  • Track record of leading integrated multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in systems and/or missions engineering methodologies, processes, and technical product development

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Experience with Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power programs
  • Experience in mission engineering practices, DoD “effects-chain” methodologies, and understanding of DoD Joint publications
  • Knowledge of space threats and the contested space operational environment
  • Knowledge across the space control community
  • Experience in space and/or DoD Joint warfighting operations, exercises, and war-games
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with government stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills including planning and executing to within cost budgets and resource constraints

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
