Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Cybersecurity, College of Engineering [R0144631].
ROLE of the POSITION
The Department of Computer Science (CS) in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Assistant Professor-in-Residence position in the area of Cybersecurity, commencing Fall 2025.
The standard teaching load for this non-tenure track position is 4 courses (12 credits) per semester, and two semesters per year. Additional teaching opportunities during the summer may be available for extra compensation. The position requires teaching online-only undergraduate courses in cybersecurity offered by the department. Additional responsibilities may include advising and mentoring students, course development, engaging in service activities, and fostering a sense of community and belonging within the entirely online undergraduate cybersecurity program.
This position is housed within the Department of Computer Science in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. The cybersecurity programs at UNLV are interdisciplinary, involving faculty from the information systems group in the Lee Business College and faculty from the College of Engineering, primarily within the Computer Science Department. The undergraduate cybersecurity program is under the direction of the Director of Cybersecurity, who also manages this program and the MS Cybersecurity program. This directorship rotates between departments.
The CS department is home to UNLV’s National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE - CD) designated by the National Security Agency (NSA). The Department of Computer Science is one of the fastest growing departments at UNLV. Comprising nearly half of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering’s total enrollment, the department’s focus is on providing a well-rounded education with a solid basis in the fundamentals of computer science. Our students and alumni are well-represented in the field, with many securing employment locally and nationally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a minimum of a master’s degree in cybersecurity-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants with the following qualifications will be given preference:
A PhD in cybersecurity-related field from an accredited college or university
Evidence of effective and impactful online teaching
Prior academic or industry experience in technology or cybersecurity
Certifications relevant to the field of cybersecurity
Technical skills related to the use and instruction of cybersecurity tools
The position title will be determined based on the candidate’s academic degree and experience. A candidate with a terminal PhD degree will be considered for the title of Assistant Professor-in-Residence. A candidate with only a master’s degree and significant experience will be considered for the title of Senior Lecturer. A candidate with only a master’s degree but without significant experience will be given the title of Lecturer.
