Role Responsibilities

If you recognize the importance of integrity, IT architecture, and security in Information Technology as it supports business operations, this newly created position will be of interest to you.  As the Court Information Security Manager (CISM) you are accountable to Court Technology Services department, and you will assume a leadership role in the establishment, protection, maintenance, and security of Court systems in addition to defining architecture standards for security, network and audio visual systems.  Ultimately you and your technical staff will contribute to the protection of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Court information and assets.

The Alberta Courts’ Information Technology systems are administered by Court Technology Services and their domain includes users from both the Judicial and Administrative branches of the Department of Justice. Many systems have shared users. As the CISM, you recognize the different governance frameworks in place for the three Courts and will advance the respective policies of the Courts and the Alberta Government by ensuring compliance with the Canadian Judicial Council Judicial Blueprint and Government policies.  Alternatively, systems constraints direct that many technical policies will apply to all users and your understanding of the branches of the Courts and their roles will assist you in negotiating and effectively working with multiple stakeholders, for the best outcome. Your effectiveness in this role will be enhanced through your experience in leading complex technology teams, and knowledge in M365-E5 security, firewall technology, security practices, network and Internet technology, and a vast array of IT security systems.

You work collaboratively with Court’s security resource, the Judicial Information Technology Security Officer (JITSO) and members of the department and ministry to develop and advance secure digital and non-digital information assets across multiple Courts and judicial units. Your superior interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills will allow you to liaise with executive and the judiciary as you develop and implement policies and practices and proactively advise executive and the JITSO of risks and opportunities that may arise in relation to the implementation of policies.  You will also guide the actions for Court users and contractors in the secure use of Court and government information.

In your role as CISM you will audit activities and manage security incidents by leading investigations and reporting issues that have potential to negatively impact judicial business operation. You will work collaboratively with the JITSO to implement appropriate physical and technical security measures.

Your experienced leadership skills will come to the fore as you educate diverse stakeholders and users on the applicable judicial information policies and will interpret IT security policies, standards, and procedures to safeguard sensitive information through the Court process.
