The Head of IT will be responsible for overseeing Digital Catapult’s IT and AV infrastructure, equipment, tools, and services, and ensuring their effective and secure operation. This role involves managing the Systems Administrator Team, implementing technology solutions, enhancing our systems and processes, and managing IT projects, as well as working alongside out IT Operations Manager to provide support to staff.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)

  • Supporting, mentoring and leading the IT team.
  • Leading the team’s provision and support of appropriate IT & AV services for staff, such as Windows & Mac laptops, AV, networking, and enterprise tools such as Microsoft 365, including providing hands-on technical expertise.
  • Working closely with the technology and project teams to ensure that the IT needs for the lab and R&D environments are supported and aligned with company standards.   
  • Operating, monitoring and enhancing appropriate security policies, procedures, systems and training to provide proactive risk reduction and effective incident response, and to ensure ongoing certification for Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001.
  • Creating and maintaining processes to ensure both “business as usual” tasks and larger projects, such as the ongoing migration to Microsoft 365, are clearly defined, communicated, planned and executed to time and budget.
  • Ensuring correct procurement and supplier management processes are followed, spending monitored and kept within the agreed-on IT budget, and tendering, renewal and similar processes are proactively planned for and scheduled.

Requirements

  • Previous experience leading high-performing hybrid IT teams.
  • Broad experience in designing and operating infrastructure and IT solutions in medium sized organisations with a mix of Mac & Windows, Azure and AWS. 
  • Experience of planning and managing Information Security policies & procedures for Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO27001
  • Experience in supporting a wide range of SaaS business applications, including Microsoft 365
  • Business awareness, hands-on and collaborative management style and excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong supplier management and problem solving skills
  • Proven and solid experience leading and managing projects and operational support teams with experience of working across IT service areas
  • Scrum / Agile, Microsoft, ITIL 4 Foundation and / or other IT Management certification and CISM, CISSP and / or other security certification desirable but not essential
