Position Description:

The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for two full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor to support our undergraduate and graduate programs in forensic psychology.  We are interested in candidates with expertise in one or more areas of psychological science (e.g., behavioral, affective, developmental, cognitive, clinical, cultural, social), as applied to issues facing the law or legal systems.

Assistant/Associate Teaching Professors are expected to teach 12 credits of courses during each of ASU’s fall and spring semesters (i.e., a 4/4 teaching load). While the majority of the teaching responsibilities will serve our online programs, the position may also include on-campus teaching for our campus-based undergraduate programs in forensic psychology. The position further includes course redevelopment and maintenance, assisting with program development, working with graduate student teaching assistants, departmental and professional service, and working with ancillary support services connected to ASU Online.

The Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor will be a member of ASU’s Law and Behavioral Science initiative, one of the largest centers of Forensic and Legal Psychology scholars in the world with over 30 core and affiliated faculty members and nearly 2,000 students enrolled in five degree programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Essential Functions of the Position:

The Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor is expected to be able to perform the following essential functions:

• Provide undergraduate and graduate level instruction in relevant areas across multiple modalities, including online (synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person

• Develop, maintain, and update course materials as appropriate to the field and modality 

• Coordinate regular communication with ASU Online ancillary support services and graduate student teaching assistants

• Participate in service to the school, college, university, community, and/or profession as requested

• Engage in regular professional development

To be considered for an Associate Teaching Professor position, one must have at least five years of relevant teaching experience and have successfully gone through the promotion process at another institution.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have:

•        PhD or terminal degree in psychology or related field at time of hire

Desired Qualifications:  

Successful candidates should also demonstrate:

• Experience teaching or conducting research on topics at at the intersection of psychology

• Post-secondary teaching experience in the field of psychology with the ability to teach broadly across a variety of courses within the forensic/legal psychology area
• Contributions to curricular and program development
• Strong quantitative methodological skills and knowledge
• Experience with online instruction utilizing course management systems such as Canvas
• Proven success in coordinating and mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or teaching assistants
• Excellent communication skills 
• For candidates with a clinical psychology background, State of Arizona licensed or licensed eligible preferred 
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness - e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.
