Description

The Department of Economics welcomes applications for an open rank professor to start in Fall 2025 in the field of the economics of cybersecurity, broadly defined. Applicants are expected to be engaged in research that is related to the advertised field. Researchers with interests in topics such as the economics of privacy, the economics of digitization and online marketplaces, law and economics, or cybersecurity applied to specific settings such as the financial or health sector are encouraged to apply. Completion of Ph.D. by the start date is required for appointment.

This position is part of a multi-year, campus-wide, and state-supported hiring initiative to develop the UMBC Cybersecurity Institute (UCI). The UCI builds upon a strong foundation established under the UMBC Cybersecurity Center (UCYBR) over the past decade, and today comprising over thirty faculty members from seven departments across all colleges at UMBC. UCI-affiliated faculty members will have a tenure/tenure-track appointment in their respective home department but are expected to collaborate across disciplines as part of a cohort of new faculty members with complementary expertise in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity.

Duties for the position entail actively publishing in peer reviewed journals along with teaching courses related to the economics of cybersecurity and related fields at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The committee will evaluate the research and teaching potential of each candidate based on the quality of the job market paper, an established publication record in peer-reviewed journals, letters of recommendation, a research statement, established evidence of (or showing potential for) teaching excellence, and a statement of teaching philosophy. The successful candidate will also display commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $200,000 commensurate with experience.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
