In this role, you will help provide advisory direction, strategic oversight, guidance, and management of all aspects of technical and regulatory privacy for the Calix Products, Services, and Cloud Offerings. The Product Privacy Engineer Intern will help ensure Calix is aware of current and upcoming global privacy regulations and that the company is designing and operating our products and cloud offerings in compliance with these regulations and in accordance with designed for privacy principles.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct technical reviews within Calix’s Cloud and Engineering Operations team during the Privacy by Design (PbD) process of Calix platforms.
  • Engage directly with the business and technical teams on privacy engineering reviews, early and often, throughout Calix’s product development lifecycle.
  • Define and track platform enhancements in alignment with Calix’s Product Privacy Program.
  • Partner with business and technology teams by defining and tracking implementation of legal and technical infrastructure requirements and establishing appropriate controls to enable privacy compliance across Calix Cloud and Engineering Operations. 
  • Review and organize all technical and engineering information required for Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
  • Recommend privacy controls to prevent re-identification and approving the ingress/egress of data from environments. 
  • Evaluate market and privacy technology trends and evolutions and research privacy-enhancing technologies and assist with proof-of-concept projects and validation of privacy controls.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, in leading or contributing to global and multi-functional teams.
  • Experience or understanding of software applications design tools and languages.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals consisting of front-end applications, databases, ETLs, analytics machine learning, and system architectures.
  • Data literacy: finding and managing data, cleansing data, manipulating data.
  • Ability to perform operations on large datasets.
  • Experience building products and services with an existing, sample portfolio of written product summaries, detailed data flows, and/or similar documents.
  • Demonstrated interest in privacy and/or corporate security (e.g., completion of IAPP courses, CIPM/CIPT/CISSP certifications, or familiarity of privacy principles.)

Education/Experience:

  • BE degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, privacy engineering or related field of study. Should have graduated in 2023 / 2024.
