The role:
Do you have what it takes to lead and make decisions during critical situations? Join us as an incident responder! In this pivotal role, you will assist in maintaining safe and efficient travel on Oregon roadways by initiating and clearing traffic obstructions while also ensuring everyone’s safety. You will also act as an on-scene commander at incident sites and interact with private, public and commercial vehicle operators daily. A day in the life:
Provide minor road service assistance to motorists, clear disabled vehicles from travel lanes and coordinate tow requirements.
Identify traffic hazards, develop removal plan, coordinate safe expeditious hazard removal, clear hazardous road conditions from travel lanes and provide immediate response to any incidents or hazardous situations that jeopardize the safe and efficient movement of traffic.
Develop and implement emergency traffic controls that safely optimize traffic movement through or around the incident location.
Provide on scene leadership in situation assessment, traffic control and coordination of activities in adherence to the Incident Command System.
Prepare and process motorist assistance logs, incident reports, damage claims and other documents required for incident investigations.
Supervise removal of wreckage and debris and coordinate clean-up activities.
Initiate emergency road closures caused by weather or other natural disasters and coordinate with the transportation maintenance operation center and highway maintenance operations to restore safe conditions.
Maintain equipment, shop facilities, vehicles and tools in clean and serviceable condition.
Participate as a member of the incident response team: communicate and enhance group effectiveness through decision making.
Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with all internal and external customers.
Work is performed alone, outdoors in all weather and traffic conditions and may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
Work may require extended hours and being on call including nights and weekends due to emergency situations.

Comprehensive and equitable base salary offer within the listed range. Through an equal pay assessment, we will determine the salary offer using the information you provide in your submitted application materials. The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.

Minimum qualifications:
Two years of experience related to the duties of the position. One year of this experience must include public safety or transportation related experience.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 2440 SE Stubb Street, Milwaukie, Oregon 97222 for emergency call-outs.
