The Senior Counsel will work closely with both our Litigation and Global Privacy and Cybersecurity legal teams. This individual will report to the VP & Head of Litigation with matrix reporting line to Chief Counsel Privacy and Cybersecurity and will have an opportunity to interact with numerous partners across Manulife and the broader Global Privacy Office.

Position Responsibilities :

You will have a broad range of responsibilities, including the opportunity to provide legal support on a wide variety of issues relating to privacy, data and cybersecurity across Manulife’s Canadian and U.S. segments, including:

  • Coordinating and leading all aspects of litigation and regulatory investigations related to privacy and cybersecurity.

  • Collaborating and advising business partners and legal colleagues on complex privacy, data and cybersecurity issues.

  • Partnering with Regulatory and Public Affairs colleagues and participating in industry consultations.

  • Acting as incident response counsel for security and privacy incidents, including outreach to third parties and service providers and advising on regulatory notification requirements.

  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on contracts, data protection agreements and security schedules.

  • Creating, developing and advising on templates, playbooks, scalable frameworks and processes.

  • Serving as counsel to segment and global cybersecurity teams, including cyber threat intelligence, cybersecurity operations and global information risk management.

  • Keeping apprised of privacy, data protection and cybersecurity legislative changes and regulatory reform impacting Manulife’s business and operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • You have an LLB or J.D. and are a member in good standing with Law Society of Ontario, another province or territory of Canada, with a minimum of 6 years post-call experience practicing law with significant expertise and ability to advise on privacy and cybersecurity matters.

  • Membership in at least one U.S. state bar will be considered an asset.

  • You have excellent analytical, interpretive and research skills.

  • You have a consistent record of successfully advising on sophisticated litigation, privacy and cybersecurity issues and in a timely way.

  • You optimally and clearly communicate sophisticated legal and technical concepts (written and spoken).

  • You have experience or are keen to gain experience as privacy and/or cybersecurity incident response counsel including providing advice on regulatory reporting requirements and litigation risks.

Salary range is expected to be between

$114,730.00 CAD - $213,070.00 CAD
