Cyber Forensics Practitioner

Salary: London from £46,000 to £61,000, depending on skills and experience

The team/department

The Enforcement Intelligence & Specialist Services Directorate (EISS) sits at the heart of Enforcement & Market Oversight (EMO) and provides strategic and highly specialised central support to EMO and the wider FCA.

The Digital Forensics Unit within EISS provide comprehensive digital evidence services to Enforcement and Market Oversight providing strategic forensic investigative techniques for the acquisition, preservation, recovery, and presentation of digital evidence.

We are looking for an Associate to join our Legal Professional Privilege Team on a permanent basis. The role will be 80% Lab based at our London office.

What you will be doing (the role)

  • Undertaking digital forensic investigations

  • Collection of digital evidence/material including desktops, laptops, storage media and mobile devices during onsite visits, including search warrants, carrying out detailed evidential analysis and making recommendations

  • Liaising with Investigation Case Teams, to provide strategic direction for digital forensic techniques in the recovery, processing and reporting of evidence

  • Building, maintaining, and owning effective stakeholder relationships with colleagues in other business areas within the FCA and with external bodies

  • Taking responsibility for drafting (delegated or otherwise) of all forms of documents (including witness statements, the statutory notices, technical reports) and correspondence with subjects, their legal representatives and witnesses and taking responsibility for quality assurance on cases

  • Attending court to give evidence as required​

The skills and experience you will have  

Minimum   

We are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, who best meet the minimum criteria for a role.  

  • Prior Computer Forensic examination experience with imaging various forms of electronic media such as phones, laptops, desktops, and hard drives

  • Experience with forensic tools such as FTK, Cellebrite, AXIOM and Nuix

  • Experience in statement writing relating to the imaging work completed to a criminal court standard

Essential

  • Experience of investigations involving serious fraud or other complex financial crime

  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and working constructively with decisions made by others, including when disagreeing with the decision made

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experienced in presenting technical concepts to a variety of recipients, orally and in writing

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management, internal and external stakeholders across the organisation and external agencies

  • Experience of giving evidence in court or tribunal
