In the Cyber Operations & Analysis Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, we research challenging technical problems in cyber security, develop new technologies, and prototype first-of-a-kind systems. We have particular focus on enabling human operators and improving operational systems, orienting our work toward strong practical impact.
We work across a variety of cutting-edge national-security applications:
- Enhancing the cyber security of critical infrastructure, weapons systems, and other operational technology
- Protecting and defending emerging U.S. systems for conducting command and control (C2) across multiple domains
- Helping the nation’s cyber operators do their jobs better, faster, and at greater scale
- Quantifying risk posed by adversary cyber threats to key national security missions
- Creating new analytics and processing techniques to create timely, actionable insights from cyber data
- Developing techniques to coordinate actions for emerging mission scenarios combining cyber and other mission domains such as air, land, sea, and space

Job Description
You will perform analysis, develop technology, and/or build software for the next generation of operational cyber security systems. As a member of a research team, you will work with a principal investigator and other seasoned researchers, have considerable autonomy and independence on your research tasks, but also many collaborative work opportunities. You will learn about the problems operators and decision makers face from persistent, intelligent cyber adversaries, and contribute to novel technical solutions. You will have many opportunities to develop your skills in research, modeling, coding, presenting results, and working collaboratively with a highly motivated and skilled research team.
You should apply if you have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical fields.
- Demonstrated interest in cyber security.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar.
- Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following, with research experience especially valued (classes, extracurriculars, mentoring, etc.):
- Cyber security.
- Artificial intelligence/machine learning.
- Cloud and infrastructure automation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Mathematical or statistical modeling and problem-solving.
- Software engineering.
- Human–system integration.
- United States military operations, especially cyberspace operations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on open-ended problems with interdisciplinary technical teams.
