Your future role at QRT
Are you passionate about cyber security and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment? We are looking for a motivated Security Intern to join our growing security team at Qube Research & Technologies (QRT). This internship offers hands-on experience across a wide range of security projects and operational security tasks, providing a solid foundation for anyone looking to kickstart their career in the cyber security field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Security Projects: Assist in the development and execution of various security projects, working alongside senior security engineers. Projects may include vulnerability assessments, security tool implementations, and process automation.
- Operational Security Tasks: Contribute to day-to-day security operations, including monitoring security alerts, managing security tools, and performing regular checks on system health and integrity.
- Incident Response: Support the team in investigating and responding to security incidents. Help document findings and ensure appropriate remediation steps are taken.
- Vulnerability Management: Participate in vulnerability scanning, analysis, and remediation efforts. Work with teams to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed in a timely manner.
- Security Awareness: Assist in preparing materials and communications for security awareness programmes across the organisation, promoting good security hygiene and practices.
- Documentation and Reporting: Help maintain and update security documentation, including policies, procedures, and incident reports. Prepare reports on security metrics for internal use.
Your present skillset
- Penultimate year students studying for a degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD) in any Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, on track towards obtaining a 2:1 or above.
- Demonstrable passion for technology. Regardless of whether you have formal CompSci training or not – we are more interested in your achievements related to software/hardware/security engineering.
- Obtained or currently pursuing a degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of security principles and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability scanning tools.
- Familiarity with security best practices, such as password management, data encryption, and secure coding practices.
- Interest in learning about security tools, processes, and industry trends.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with good problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on experience with industry tools would be a plus (even if only from academic projects).
- Familiarity with basic scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and automation techniques is desirable.
- Relevant certifications or coursework, such as CompTIA Security+ or similar would be advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Pro-active and unafraid to ask questions. You can really have a huge impact here, improving our performance with suggestions and optimisations.
- Entrepreneurial approach and self-motivated.
Interviewing:

- Shortlisting: Our security engineering teams will evaluate your background and performance in the coding challenge to create a shortlist of candidates
- Assessment Centre: If shortlisted, you will be invited to an onsite assessment centre at our offices. This will include a group activity to test your technical skills, followed by interviews with the engineering teams you may potentially work with
- Offer: Successful candidates will receive an offer to join our team
