IT Intern - Threat Modeling and Penetration Testing

The Costco IT Division is inviting students currently enrolled in an IT undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university to participate in a 12-week paid internship program during 2025. Interns will work within specific areas in Costco’s Information Systems Division. Interns will attend presentations given by various members of Executive Management from IT and other areas of the Company. Interns will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Housing is not provided.

Costco IT stays a step ahead of the adversary through an aggressive and comprehensive security testing program which identifies weaknesses in our security posture and ensures appropriate corrective action, directly increasing our overall security posture.

Penetration testing (pentesting) describes the intentional launching of simulated cyberattacks by approved penetration testers using strategies and tools designed to access or exploit computer systems, networks, websites, and applications. The main objective of penetration testing is to identify exploitable issues so that effective security controls can be implemented. Security professionals can use penetration testing techniques, along with specialized testing tools, to identify security weaknesses, adherence to Costco’s security policies, regulatory compliance, employee security awareness, and the organization's ability to identify and respond to security issues and incidents

NOTE: While participating in the IT Internship program, an individual will be classified as an hourly temporary employee for the duration of the program. During the program, the individual may be asked to undergo the normal interview process for a level 1 position. If the individual is offered a position, they will be converted to the employment status matching open job they were selected for. If they are not selected for a regular position, the internship position will be complete in a maximum of twelve weeks.

REQUIRED

●      Experience with one or more OS: Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, Linux, Android, and Apple's iOS.

●      Experience in one or more programming languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, C, PHP.

●      General understanding of common and current security infrastructure and services.

●      Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

●      Possess good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, and stay well organized.

●      Must be maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

●      Must be students currently enrolled in an IT undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university.

Recommended

●      Costco warehouse, Ecommerce or retail experience is a plus.

●      High level of interest in security research.

Pay Range: $20.50 - $30.90
