Under direction from the Senior Security Supervisor, Oversees Emergency Operators/Dispatchers that prioritize emergency telephone/dispatch/radio calls and requests on a 24hours/day, 7 day/week environment. Administer Security Operations Center functions such as shift scheduling, key database, control access/CCure, video systems, and alarm systems.
A strong candidate for the Security Operations Center Supervisor role should have both Emergency Dispatcher expertise and leadership skills to manage a team effectively. 

You Will:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and facilitate the work of others, including scheduling of shift personnel of the Security Operations Center, collaborating with the Senior Security Supervisor.
  • Receive non-emergency calls; follow protocol/procedures in asking appropriate questions and notifies appropriate personnel, transform requests into proper radio message format; Record and monitor status of personnel and equipment and coordinates operations through radio and telephone communications. (Employee will be expected to be on-call for off hours incident response. This may or may not require the employee to come onsite to address the issue.)
  • Manages all Human Resources actions for the Security Operations Center function including making recommendations for hiring, promotions, performance and merit reviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations, as may be appropriate.
  • Monitor administrative two-way communications systems for other Laboratory groups and dispatch required services using standard radio code system.
  • Monitor site-wide fire, security, and utility alarm enunciation system, as well as local fire and law enforcement radio channels and Fermilab emergency warning systems. Correlate activated alarms with system testing activities and irregularity reports; dispatches responders as required.
  • Step into the Emergency Operator/Dispatcher role as necessary to meet operational needs.
  • Receive and forward requests for Fermilab assistance and mutual aid for off-site law enforcement and fire/medical emergencies.
  • Maintain logs, records, call lists, and emergency instructions; complete and submit reports as required.
  • Keep informed of current and applicable Fermi Security and Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Receive, place, and redirect intra-Laboratory, local, long distance, conference, and over-seas calls; provide directory assistance; send, receive, and log facsimile messages.
  • Activate Emergency Operating Center (EOC) procedures when directed.
  • Conduct equipment checks and reports/logs deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

We Are Looking For:

  • Master’s degree in related field with 1 year experience; or Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3 years’ experience. 

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

Team Management: 

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring (SOC) emergency operators/dispatchers, ensuring optimal team performance, particularly in high-stress situations.
  • The ability to guide, motivate, and support the Emergency Operator/Dispatchers on a 24/7/365 basis. 

Incident Command: 

  • Capable of coordinating and managing incidents, making sound decisions quickly, and effectively leading the team during any Fermilab related incident.
  • Adept at managing high pressure situations, ensuring accurate and timely incident response, and continually optimizing the SOC’s policies, procedures, and protocols. 
  • Proficiency in working with Fire Department and Security staff during EOC activation, compliance, and risk management teams to ensure coordinated responses and proactive threat management.

Training and Development: 

  • Skilled in developing team capabilities through continuous training, knowledge sharing, and mentorship.

Communication: 

  • Excellent ability to communicate SOC issues, incidents, and processes to supervisory staff.
  • Use of two-way public safety radios, telephone switchboard. Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Competence in creating detailed reports, documenting incidents, and ensuring that team activities are well-documented.
  • Detail oriented and capable of multitasking.
