Position Overview

QinetiQ US is looking to hire an experienced Principal Investigator/Solutions Architect to support our Unmanned Aerial Targets/Systems division at our Huntsville, AL location. The selected candidate will lead an interdisciplinary team of engineers and will be responsible for both driving the technical approach to aerospace systems delivery; and supporting wider business development and engagement with our Huntsville customers.

Responsibilities

The Principal Investigator/Solution Architect for Aerial Systems will have the following responsibilities:

  • Driving QinetiQ’s Unmanned Aerial Target and threat representation portfolio full development lifecycle activities
  • Provide technical leadership internally (within QinetiQ) and externally (industry and customer) communities to build relationships, develop partnerships, and expand awareness for our aerial systems and related capabilities.   
  • Develop, implement, and execute technology/product roadmaps related to platforms and related systems to align with other product and technology areas. Identify, propose, and execute strategic investments to align with roadmap.
  • Lead interdisciplinary technical teams to execute complex projects, ranging from early development and experimentation to program of record delivery. Drive and monitor execution within funding, schedule, and customer constraints.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Program Management, and Business Development to identify new customer  opportunities; develop technical, capture, and delivery strategies; and execute and implement plans to drive delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong technical background with unmanned aerial platforms and threat representation with demonstrated subject matter expertise and experience leading and guiding development programs.
  • Ability to manage technology/product development throughout full lifecycle with objective of transition technologies from early development to mature product/program. Must understand test, qualification, and approval process for UAS.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in the design, development and production of aeronautical systems and subsystems. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing fast paced development initiatives and making system level trade-offs, often with multiple stakeholders, with complex cost, schedule, and customer constraints.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.  Able to lead multidisciplinary teams, supervise and mentor senior and junior level engineers, plan and manage projects including tasks and budgets. Defense program related experience desired.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with extensive technical & proposal writing experience.  Strong presentation skills and the ability to lead customer and/or senior leadership interaction required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage customers, write proposals, lead teams, interact with internal and external customers, and successfully execute complex programs. 
  • Experience with MS Word, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • BS or MS in Aeronautical engineering (or equivalent) with 8 - 10 years industry experience in software development.
  • Active DOD Secret or higher clearance
