Job Summary

The Senior Security Analyst designs, implements, and maintains computer security structures including user access control software, physical security, and disaster recovery to ensure protection of equipment, program software, and data files. Identifies information technology risk and facilitates remediation measures.


Security Services Duties: Utilize established City of Dallas information security policies, standards and procedures to manage general IT security activities including but not limited to: Authorization, Authentication activities, credentialing services, endpoint protection, incident response, security assurance and other tasks required to protect the City of Dallas information systems, assets and applications.


Job Description
 

Essential Functions:

1 Assesses, evaluates, identifies, and determines information risk; facilitates remediation measures of identified vulnerabilities for IT security and IT risk across the City of Dallas IT infrastructures; reports on findings and makes recommendations for corrective action; performs vulnerability assessments as assigned utilizing IT security tools and methodologies.

2 Designs, installs, and maintains security software packages; issues passwords and proper authorization for system access to ensure protection of computer software and data files on the City's mainframe and LAN computers.

3 Analyzes changes in the operating system, data fields, and software to ensure appropriate safeguards are maintained on the system; evaluates and analyzes alarms from the security applications and respond accordingly; reviews reports from the systems.

4 Develops procedures and contingency plans for disaster recovery including establishing off-site storage of back-up computer tapes; tests the procedures to ensure adequate recovery can be accomplished for data files and software.

5 Performs and conducts internal audits of computer facilities to ensure operating procedures are being followed and develops risk analysis and vulnerability studies of software and physical security.

6 Communicates with vendors, users, and system programmers to coordinate the development and implementation of enhancements and maintenance to the installed security software systems.

7 Develops and drafts detailed reports on security measures and risk mitigation activities.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Science, Math or Business fields.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of experience in information security administration which must include experience with Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Intrusion Detection Systems, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Firewalls, Anti-Virus products, McAfee Threat Management products, and/or LAN/WAN Network technologies including switches and routers.

EQUIVALENCIES:

  • High school diploma or GED plus seven (7) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Associate's degree in any field plus five (5) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a non-specified field plus five (5) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Master's degree or higher in a specified field plus one (1) year of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • A Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification plus four (4) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE:

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
  • No class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years.
  • No family violence convictions.
  • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor or class B misdemeanor charge.
  • Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call- out for some divisions.

PREFERENCES: 

  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in information systems security for protection of critical information systems and assets are a plus.
  • Extensive experience using threat protection tools, solutions and processes alone with experience with McAfee ePO and McAfee threat protection tools is a plus.



Salary Range

 

$70,080.75 - $87,600.94
