A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CYBER SECURITY OFFICER

As a Cyber Security Officer, you Protect the City's assets with new security strategies, monitoring controls and ongoing evaluation. Your work typically involves collaborating with network administrators and system administrators to determine the potential impact attacks have on external clients. Your job is essential to the city, you document security breaches/incidents, identify root cause and evaluate impact. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include hardening systems, computers (Microsoft, Apple, and Linux), server (Microsoft and Linux), and databases (SQL) to maintain a low security risk. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in information technology and you finding genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CYBER SECURITY OFFICER

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field
  • Education substitute: Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
• Requires three (3) years' experience in as a systems Administrator, Systems/Security Analyst or Network Analyst; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excel verbal and written communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Understanding Firewalls, DNS, Active Directory, endpoint protection, IDS/IPS, SIEM. Strong analytical and project management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business requirements. Ability to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities. Ability to keep information confidential and respond quickly to requests for assistance.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the city's expense.
• Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
• Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
