About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Support Network professional to provide comprehensive support for the organization’s network infrastructure. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining network systems to ensure optimal performance and uptime. This role involves managing network issues, assisting with network configuration, and providing critical support to ensure seamless connectivity across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Troubleshooting and Support
- Provide on-site and remote support for network-related issues, including connectivity problems, network outages, and slow performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of network issues related to routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and other networking devices.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues related to TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Monitor network traffic and performance to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact the organization.
- Assist in setting up and configuring network devices to ensure proper connectivity and performance.
Network Configuration and Maintenance
- Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers to ensure optimal functionality.
- Ensure the proper configuration of IP addresses, subnets, routing protocols, and VLANs to support network design and security policies.
- Perform regular maintenance of network equipment, including firmware updates, patches, and hardware checks to ensure devices remain up-to-date and secure.
- Manage and implement network design changes, including integrating new technologies and devices.
Network Monitoring
- Use network monitoring tools to proactively monitor the health of the organization’s network infrastructure.
- Continuously monitor the status of network devices and resolve any issues that may arise, ensuring the network remains functional and available.
- Analyze network traffic patterns and assist in identifying performance bottlenecks or potential security vulnerabilities.
- Assist in optimizing network performance, including troubleshooting high-traffic areas and identifying areas for capacity planning.
Security and Compliance
- Implement and monitor network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Support network security policies, including access controls, encryption standards, and vulnerability management.
- Ensure network systems are compliant with industry regulations, company policies, and security best practices.
- Perform regular security audits and vulnerability scans on network systems to identify and mitigate risks.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of network configurations, issues, and resolutions for troubleshooting and compliance purposes.
- Document network changes, including upgrades, maintenance, and issue resolutions, to ensure consistency and facilitate future troubleshooting.
- Provide reports on network performance, issues, and improvements to senior IT staff and management.
- Create and maintain network diagrams and inventories to ensure accurate and up-to-date infrastructure documentation.
Collaboration and Vendor Management
- Collaborate with other IT teams to implement and troubleshoot network-related projects or system integrations.
- Work with third-party vendors and service providers for network hardware and software support, ensuring the timely resolution of vendor-related issues.
- Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to implement network upgrades, expansion projects, and emergency fixes.
User Support and Training
- Provide network support to end-users, assisting with issues related to network access, connectivity, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with setting up and configuring wireless networks, VPN connections, and remote access solutions for employees.
- Offer training to staff members on network security best practices, including password management and safe internet usage.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
- Experience:
- 2-4 years of experience in network support or IT infrastructure roles.
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting networking devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Familiarity with common networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and systems.
- Basic knowledge of network security principles and practices, including firewalls, encryption, and intrusion prevention systems (IPS).
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in networking technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, and wireless access points.
- Understanding of network topologies, IP addressing, and routing protocols.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or PRTG.
- Knowledge of network security practices, including firewall configurations, network segmentation, and secure remote access.
- Experience with network performance optimization and troubleshooting techniques.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and documentation.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Certifications (preferred):
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification in networking.
- CompTIA Network+ or similar certifications in networking.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Network Security Specialist (CNSS) for network security knowledge.
