Role Purpose 


The IT Security Engineer is a key member of the information security team, working to protecting people and data, and manage information security risk within the UK and Middle East region. You will have an integral part in monitoring and operating our security tools and platforms, working with colleagues across IT to improve security, and identifying and responding to security incidents.


Daily Activities

 

  • Monitoring and operating the security tools we use to protect systems, such as anti-malware, network protection systems, and the SIEM tool. 
  • Act as an information security escalation point for the IT Service Desk, and IT peers. 
  • Responding to service tickets assigned to the information security team that could come from all parts of the organisation.  These could involve security incident response, a change to a security tool, or ensuring the correct procedures are followed to maintain security.
  • Following the established standard operating procedures for low severity security incidents.
  • When required, effectively escalate service tickets or a discovered information security issue to senior members of the Information Security team.
  • Assist in the collection of the evidence and information needed to support the responses to client audits, or to ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
  • Assist in the production and maintenance of standard operating procedures used by the Information Security team.

 

Responsibilities 

 

  • Optimising the configuration and improving the coverage of information security tools, using the IT change management processes to deliver these changes.
  • Maintaining the effective operation of security tools, ensuring the tools are patched and functioning correctly.
  • Assist in the creation of reports using data from Information Security tools and IT systems.
  • Work effectively across IT teams to build relationships and awareness of Security best practices.
  • Develop understanding of the broad infrastructure across the Dentons organisation.
  • Provide detailed and clearly written communications such as documents, procedures, and processes.
  • Learn and understand the broader technology and security of the Dentons environment.
  • Generate ideas for continued improvement, including conceptual design of new threat scenarios.
  • Participate in any cyber awareness training delivery programmes and assist in its delivery.

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Good understanding of Information Security fundamentals like Defence in Depth, Access Control, Identity, Cryptography and Least privilege. 
  • A broad understanding of the common technologies used in an enterprise computing environment such as Active Directory, Windows security, patching systems, Certificate Authorities and public cloud technology.
  • A good understanding of systems important to cyber security, including: Firewalls, EDR, Web proxy, IPS, Security groups, SIEM tools, email security gateways.
  • Monitor threat feeds, phishing schemes, emerging threats, breach, vulnerability and governance news and understand the appropriate technical actions to mitigate risks.
  • An ability to interpret the signals from multiple sources and logs, detecting patterns and indicating threats.
  • Remain up to date with cyber security trends and news.
