Job Description
The Security Data & Logging Service Owner is responsible for diving deep with business stakeholders internal and external to Cyber Security and developing a data strategy that supports NBCU’s Cyber Security goals. As a Service Owner, you will develop service strategy and roadmaps to meet the data needs of a growing Cyber Security organization in a dynamic enterprise landscape.
Responsible for the full product lifecycle, you will engage with business stakeholders, engineering teams, and cross-functional partners to understand the Cyber Security data needs, and build approachable service offerings that focus on acquiring and turning data into meaningful security insights that build business value for all NBCU. Working closely with engineering management to determine service priorities, you will participate in sprint planning and business request management to ensure roadmap timelines are met.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan, and implement a strategy for continually evolving our data pipeline, storage, signal, and insight capabilities in support of our overall NBCUniversal Cyber Security vision.
- Create a roadmap focused on outcomes, using data-driven insights to guide decision makes and prioritization efforts, aimed at delivering impactful security solutions.
- Manage tasks, timelines, and resources to meet deadlines while ensuring high quality delivery.
- Work seamlessly across large, cross-matrixed organization to ensure collaboration and alignment of objectives, business goals and technical capabilities.
- Partner with the technical operations teams to enhance, maintain and sustain our security data platforms. Deliver security services smoothly in a global, 24x7 enterprise.
- Work with architects and engineers to build the technology for your roadmap to meaningfully move the needle for our security data and insights capabilities. Lead and influence design, development, and implementation across teams.
- Partner with our Cyber Security stakeholders (such as NBC News, Universal Pictures, and Parks & Resorts) to understand needs and develop real solutions that help our businesses deliver world-class content and experiences - securely.
- Be a point of a contact for engagement and escalations and support service SLA compliance along with key milestones which properly managing stakeholder expectations.
- Apply a deep understanding of data engineering principles and practices.
- Mentor engineers and other technologists to develop NBCUniversal’s security mindset. Help them understand the domain, ask hard questions, think strategically, and grow as security professionals.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- 8+ years of related professional experience in Cyber Security
- 3+ years of proven experience in a technical product owner, architect, or similar role with a focus on data-driven products and platforms.
- Deep technical understanding of multiple platforms, products, and concepts in the data engineering and threat detection space such as SIEMs, text search systems, event graphs, message buses, data stream processing, ETL and data parsing tools, storage formats (Iceberg, Parquet) and data visualization.
- Understanding of the state of the security industry and applicable trends and market opportunities
- Strong communication abilities, ability to influence and drive alignment, and a comfort relaying technical and security principles and decisions to a wide range of audiences.
- Experience designing and operating security tools and services at enterprise-scale, including on-prem, hybrid, and public-cloud environments.
- Comfort engaging in deeply technical efforts while keeping a strategic viewpoint and managing towards key objectives and metrics.
- An understanding of security risk and a willingness to make risk-based decisions balancing the urgent and the important
- A thirst for improvement and an inclination to thoughtfully challenge the status quo
- Desire to try things and iterate on them, fail fast, and focus on features that matter
Desired Characteristics:
- Hands-on experience with common data pipeline and management tools such as Vector, Logstash, Spark, AWS Security Lake, Data Bricks, Snowflake or Splunk Enterprise in a large, complex deployment
- Direct experience building systems in AWS and using devops toolchains including Git, Terraform, and Ansible
- Understanding threat intelligence, ATT&CK framework, Cyber Kill Chain, or the Pyramid of Pain, and how they fit into developing internal security strategy
- Orchestrating security tools across complex environments to improve incident response and investigations.
- Data-driven decision making, light data analytics, and metrics/data visualization.
- Comfort with scripting or software development.
- Exposure to security compliance requirements/frameworks such as ISO27001, PCI/DSS, NIST 800-53, etc.

- Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.
