Mission Description
The Junior Security Architect (Azure and On-Premises) is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of security solutions that span both cloud and on-premises environments. This role involves assisting with the development of security policies, configuring security tools, and working on projects that protect critical infrastructure and data. The Junior Security Architect will work closely with senior architects to understand and apply security best practices for hybrid environments, gaining hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure security tools, as well as traditional on-premises security solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in Security Architecture and Design:
o Support senior security architects in designing secure architectures for both
Azure cloud and on-premises environments.
o Help develop security guidelines, standards, and best practices to protect
applications, networks, and data in hybrid environments.
o Participate in threat modeling and risk assessments for new projects and
infrastructure updates, identifying potential security risks.
2. Implement Security Controls:
o Assist with configuring security controls in both Azure and on-premises
environments, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems
(IDS/IPS), and network segmentation.
o Configure Azure security tools, such as Azure Security Center, Microsoft
Defender for Cloud, and Azure Active Directory for identity and access
management.
o Implement foundational on-premises security measures, such as access
controls, endpoint security, and encryption.
3. Monitoring and Incident Response Support:
o Support security monitoring by helping to set up and configure alerts and logs
for both Azure and on-premises resources.
o Assist in investigating security incidents under the guidance of senior security
personnel, helping to identify causes, impacts, and remediation steps.
o Work with SOC teams to improve logging, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms
across the hybrid environment.
4. Vulnerability and Risk Management:
o Participate in vulnerability assessments for both cloud and on-premises
systems, helping to identify, prioritize, and document vulnerabilities.
o Assist with patch management and configuration management processes to
maintain the security posture of the organization's hybrid infrastructure.
o Regularly review and update security configurations in Azure and on-premises
systems to align with best practices and compliance requirements.
5. Policy and Compliance Support:
o Assist in ensuring that security policies for cloud and on-premises systems
comply with organizational standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR,
SOC 2).
o Document security controls, policies, and configurations to support audit and
compliance activities.
o Participate in audits and assessments to ensure compliance with internal and
external security standards.
6. Collaboration on Security Projects
Profile
Key Skills and Qualifications :
• Technical Skills :
o Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure security services (e.g., Azure Security
Center, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Active Directory).
o Familiarity with on-premises security solutions, such as SIEM, firewalls,
IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection.
o Understanding of identity and access management (IAM) principles, network
security, and encryption for both cloud and on-premises resources.
o Foundational knowledge of scripting or automation tools, such as PowerShell or
Python, is desirable for automating security tasks.
• Certifications (preferred but not required for entry-level):
o Microsoft Certified : Azure Fundamentals
o Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
o Additional certifications like Certified Information Systems Security
Professional (CISSP) (Associate), or Certified Cloud Security Professional
(CCSP) are beneficial.
• Experience :
o 1+ year of experience in IT security or cloud security (internships or junior-level
experience acceptable).
o Familiarity with both cloud (Azure preferred) and on-premises security
concepts, either through coursework, certifications, or previous roles.
o Demonstrated interest in security through projects, certifications, or continued
learning.
• Soft Skills :
o Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
o Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and
documenting security activities.
o Proactive learning attitude and adaptability in a dynamic security environment.
