DevOps Engineer

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast paced environment, operate gracefully under stress, effectively contribute to multiple concurrent assignments, be self driven, proactive and have great interpersonal and communication skills.\

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the infrastructure and processes that empower our development teams to deliver high-quality software quickly and reliably. You will work closely with developers and QA engineers to design, implement, and optimize our CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC), and cloud-based infrastructure. This role requires a strong technical background in DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and automation tools, as well as a passion for continuous improvement and problem-solving.

 

Role & Responsibilities

CI/CD Pipelines:

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient and reliable CI/CD pipelines that automate the building, testing, and deployment of our software applications.

  • Integrate automated testing and security checks into the pipelines to ensure the quality and security of our code.

  • Optimize pipeline performance and efficiency, reducing build and deployment times.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

  • Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure resources.

  • Ensure consistency, reproducibility, and scalability of our infrastructure across different environments.

  • Collaborate with developers to define and implement infrastructure requirements.

Cloud Infrastructure Management:

  • Manage and monitor our cloud-based infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring high availability, performance, and security.

  • Optimize resource utilization and cost management.

  • Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.

Automation and Tooling:

  • Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.

  • Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to enhance our DevOps capabilities.

  • Develop custom scripts and tools to streamline workflows and improve productivity.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with development, QA, and SRE teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to build, deployment, and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to development teams on DevOps best practices and tools.
  • Participate in incident response and post-incident review processes to improve system reliability and resilience.

Minimum qualifications

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps or a related field.

  • Proven track record of building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and cloud-based infrastructure.

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other major cloud providers.

  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).

Skills:

  • Strong programming or scripting skills in Python, Bash, or other relevant languages.

  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).

  • Proficiency in using version control systems (e.g., Git).

  • Understanding of networking and security concepts.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with cybersecurity tools and technologies.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Knowledge of SRE principles and practices.

  • Contributions to open source projects related to DevOps.

Cloud Infrastructure

  • Expert: Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

    • Compute (Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Functions)

    • Storage (Cloud Storage, Persistent Disk, Filestore)

    • Networking (VPC, Load Balancing, Cloud DNS, Cloud CDN)

    • Databases (Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Firestore)

    • Security (Identity and Access Management, Cloud Armor, Security Command Center)

    • Monitoring (Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace)

  • Proficient: Linux/Unix administration, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing)

  • Bonus: Experience with other cloud providers (AWS, Azure) or hybrid cloud environments.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Expert: Terraform

  • Proficient: Ansible, or similar configuration management tools

  • Bonus: Experience with other IaC tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Pulumi), or policy-as-code frameworks (e.g., Open Policy Agent)

CI/CD

  • Proficient: Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI/CD, or similar tools

  • Bonus: Experience with Tekton, Argo CD, or other Kubernetes-native CI/CD solutions

Containerization and Orchestration

  • Expert: Docker, Kubernetes

  • Bonus: Experience with Helm (Kubernetes package manager), Istio (service mesh), or Knative (serverless platform)

Programming and Scripting

  • Proficient: Python, Bash, or other scripting languages (e.g., Ruby, Perl)

  • Bonus: Experience with Go (Golang) or other compiled languages (e.g., Java, C++)

Monitoring and Observability

  • Proficient: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or similar monitoring and logging tools

  • Bonus: Experience with distributed tracing (e.g., Jaeger, Zipkin) or other observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry)

Security

  • Proficient: Security best practices for cloud infrastructure, container security, network security, access control, secrets management

  • Bonus: Experience with security scanning tools (e.g., Trivy, Clair), penetration testing, or security certifications (e.g., CISSP)

Additional Skills (Nice to have)

  • Experience with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd)

  • Knowledge of chaos engineering principles and practices

  • Familiarity with GitOps workflows

  • Experience with serverless technologies (e.g., Cloud Functions, AWS Lambda)

  • Understanding of cost optimization techniques for cloud infrastructure
