Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and technically minded Network Security Specialist to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work with leading-edge Cisco security technologies while playing a critical part in maintaining and enhancing the security of our network infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with the InfoSec team to ensure holistic security coverage across the organisation. This position requires foundational knowledge of networking, hands-on experience with network device configuration, and a willingness to learn and grow in the field of network security.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Configuration and Management:

  • Support the configuration of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies on Cisco switches and routers, including: Routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, 2 redundancy protocols, Multicast / IGMP / PIM
  • Ensure the integrity and availability of the network by performing regular configuration reviews, backups, and updates.

Network Security Operations:

  • Configure and maintain firewalls, switches, and routing technologies to enforce security policies.
  • Deploy and manage Cisco Web Proxies to provide secure internet access, including implementing filtering, SOCKS, and user identification profiles.
  • Assist with implementing and managing 802.1X authentication for endpoint security and wireless networks.

Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Monitor network traffic and device logs using SIEM tools and syslog to identify anomalies and potential threats.
  • Work with the InfoSec team to perform incident triage, analysis, and response.
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and lessons learned to improve the organisation's security posture.

Collaboration with InfoSec Team:

  • Partner closely with the Information Security team to align network security measures with broader cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Contribute to threat modelling and security risk assessments to ensure end-to-end security coverage.
  • Assist in implementing policies and controls that bridge network and information security.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Support efforts to maintain compliance with industry and regulatory frameworks such as ISO 27001, GDPR, or PCI-DSS.
  • Document network configurations and security policies to meet audit and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT networking or support roles.
  • Exposure to Cisco networking and security technologies is a strong plus.

Certifications (preferred but not required):

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate (Cybersecurity Operations)
  • CompTIA Security+ or Network+

Required Skills:

  • Foundational knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, and switching protocols.
  • Understanding of security concepts, including firewalls, proxies, and 802.1X.
  • Hands-on experience with networking devices such as Cisco switches and routers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.
