The Reserve Bank of Australia is hiring for a Manager, Cyber Security Engineering to lead a skilled team on a permanent basis. In this role you will lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s cyber security technology solutions, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s cyber security strategy and controls. You will provide expert technical leadership and subject matter expertise, managing a high-performance team responsible for delivering comprehensive cyber security engineering services throughout the organisation. Reporting to the Manager, Cyber Defence Operations Centre, your team of cyber security engineers form part of a larger multi-disciplinary IT Security Services function sitting across the full spectrum of cyber security roles.

About the Role

  • Define, lead, and mature the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Cyber Security Engineering capability, including the development and execution of a long-term strategic plan and roadmap, in alignment with the organisation’s overall cyber security strategy and technology roadmap.
  • Provide strategic direction, oversight, and lifecycle management of security solutions and tooling utilised by IT Security teams and the wider Bank.
  • You will lead and mentor a team of cyber security engineers, ensuring that staff receive the necessary training, guidance and development to effectively perform their assigned roles.
  • Work collaboratively with business, technical and project stakeholders, to ensure solutions are delivered in line with the Bank’s IT security requirements. You will provide expert technical guidance on IT security best practices and adapt solutions as necessary to meet evolving security threats and business objectives.
  • Work closely with internal IT Security Services teams, Infrastructure Operations teams, and stakeholders throughout the Bank during cyber security incident response, providing expert technical guidance and analysis throughout all stages of a cyber security incident. You will also focus on developing and implementing post-incident corrective actions to prevent future occurrences and enhance the Bank’s overall security posture.
  • Manage the uplift, development and maintenance of the Bank’s cyber security logging Infrastructure and SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) capabilities.
  • Support cross-functional responsibilities and other duties as strategically directed by the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

About You

We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about cyber security and technology, and enjoys sharing that passion with others. Demonstrated experience working within and leading a Cyber Security Engineering role is essential. Alternatively, experience leading other Cyber Security teams such as Cyber Security Operations, Cyber Security Hunt and Incident Response, will be highly regarded. To be successful in this critical role you will possess the following skills:

  • At least 3 years' experience in a dedicated cyber security role, with a focus on engineering and management.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years' experience in an adjacent (cyber security or information technology) discipline will be highly regarded.
  • Prior working experience or expert knowledge in at least 3 of the following technology domains: Cloud Infrastructure, Automation, Software Development, Windows and Linux Server Infrastructure, Networking or Remote Access Infrastructure.
  • Cyber security incident response experience is desirable, including the ability to lead and coordinate response efforts during security incidents.
  • A broad understanding of general cyber security and information technology topics, principles and regulations relevant to a modern enterprise environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in managing and maintaining logging infrastructure to ensure comprehensive and reliable log collection, storage, and analysis, with a strong understanding of logging standards, log management, and log normalisation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of IT security protocols, cryptography, authentication, authorisation, and security frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience managing key stakeholder relationships, and an ability to build, maintain relationships with key technical stakeholders.

It is desirable that the ideal candidate will have undertaken, or be in the process of undertaking at least one of the following certifications or associated courses (or similar):

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience
  • CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)
  • Microsoft Azure AZ-500
  • GIAC Cloud Security Essential Certification (GCLD)
  • SANS530: Defensible Security Architecture and Engineering
  • SANS488: Cloud Security Essentials
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM)
