The Digital Modernization Sector has an exciting career opportunity for a Lead DevSecOps Engineer in El Segundo, CA to support the US Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC). This role is instrumental in the development and deployment of mission critical software for space defense, space domain awareness, and enabling data services. This position is 80% hands on keyboard tactical engineering and 20% product/team lead orchestrating the direction as provided by the Chief of Platform Operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Directly manage and lead software development teams in the implementation of DevSecOps practices, ensuring collaboration and communication across teams.
  • Leveraging Kubernetes technology to deliver, install, upgrade, patch and maintain highly reliable and resilient solutions for deploying and hosting current and future tools and services needed to develop, test, secure, and ship software applications to production.
  • Embrace a customer-oriented mindset and strive to exceed the service level agreements, specifications, and parameters set by CI/CD pipeline users, administrators, and software development teams.
  • Participate and facilitate various Agile ceremonies, to include but not limited to daily stand up, collection of user feedback, sprint/iteration planning, duration planning, retrospectives, grooming of the product backlog, defining the product roadmap, meeting performance metrics, and reporting status of progress and blockers.
  • Implement and manage all the tooling and services required for full life cycle software development and deployment. Your job will be to assist in reducing the toil involved in developing, building, testing, securing, and shipping applications to production.
  • Assist in automating infrastructure, workflows, and testing to increase development and operations productivity, without sacrificing the security.
  • Build and test code continuously using scripting and programming languages; deploy applications via automation using configuration management tools; and measure application and environment performance using system and application logging tools.
  • Securing and configuring containerized services orchestrated with Kubernetes, and its underlying environment.
  • Tuning performance and identifying problems using monitoring and alerting dashboards, ensuring the Kubernetes environment is running as it should, properly patched and configured, has sufficient resources to run the required applications, and can scale as needed without being overprovisioned.
  • With automation and an ‘everything as code’ mentality, configure, deploy, and manage all enterprise tools and services required to support 36 software applications and thousands of users across the test, IL4, IL6, and higher classification development, staging, and production environments.
  • Serve as a thought leader, driving the overall strategy for successful program delivery by defining clear objectives, aligning resources, and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Provide strategic guidance to ensure program goals are met efficiently, innovate solutions to complex challenges, and maintain a focus on quality and customer satisfaction to deliver impactful outcomes
  • Key leadership position on the program, responsible for shaping strategic direction, ensuring successful delivery of objectives, and fostering collaboration to achieve impactful results and exceed customer expectations.
  • Engages directly with the customer to build strong relationships, understand requirements, provide strategic guidance, and ensure alignment with program objectives to deliver exceptional outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience as a DevSecOps Engineer, successfully shipping software for mid to large size businesses or programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, STEM, or IT from an accredited institution. A combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • US Citizen and an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI)
  • Certification: Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification (e.g., Security+).
  • Possession of at least one of the following certifications:
    • Cloud Solutions Architect Expert
    • Cloud Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
    • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA) certification, or equivalent
  • Your resume must demonstrate experience:
    • Familiarity with deploying and managing micro-services using container orchestration platforms
    • Proficiently using automated tools to test, configure, and deploy cloud native applications to production
    • Familiarity with monitoring and analyzing system, networks, and infrastructure performance data to ensure reliability
    • Familiarity with implementing observability solutions, key metrics to monitor, and establishing monitoring foundation
    • Familiarity with delivering container orchestration solutions to leverage the full value of container technology
    • Familiarity with maintaining, configuring, and monitoring containers using Infrastructure as Code principles in the development, test, and production environment
    • Familiarity with working in Linux shell and network commands
    • Familiarity with automating system tasks and infrastructure using a scripting language
    • Proficiently using one or more of the following: Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, JSONNET, Grafana, Argo CD, Microsoft Azure, MongoDB, Prometheus, VMWare Tanzu Kubernetes Grid, Vault, Harbor, Kustomize, Jira, Confluence, and Gitlab

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Masters degree and a minimum 13 years of professional experience as a DevSecOps Engineer, successfully shipping software for mid to large size businesses or programs

Pay Range:

Pay Range $148,850.00 - $269,075.00
