Helical Pile Solutions is a deep foundations contractor with over 30 years of experience in the industry, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. (“Java”). Java staff have over 50 years of experience building some of Canada’s largest electrical infrastructure projects. We are in search of an accomplished IT Security Analyst to join our team in the Edmonton or Calgary region. This is an in-office position.

The IT Security Analyst, reporting to the Manager of IT Security, will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of security measures to protect the Java group of company’s computer systems, networks, and data. This role will involve monitoring security events, analyzing potential threats, and responding to security incidents under the guidance of management. Ideal candidates will be familiar with the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols, and possess a strong understanding of information technology and security systems.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor Security Systems and Tools

  • Monitor security information and event management (SIEM) systems, firewalls, Microsoft Security Suite, and other security tools to detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents in real time.
  • Analyze alerts and logs from various sources to identify unusual patterns or potential threats.

Incident Response and Investigation

  • Respond to security incidents, conduct thorough investigations to determine the cause, impact, and extent of the breach, and take corrective actions.
  • Document incidents, create detailed reports, and recommend improvements to prevent future occurrences.

 Threat Analysis and Intelligence Gathering

  • Analyze threat intelligence data to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats that could affect the organization’s security posture.
  • Stay updated on the latest threat trends, malware, and attack techniques to enhance proactive defense measures.

 Security Awareness and Training

  • Assist in developing and delivering security awareness training programs for employees to educate them on security best practices and threat prevention.
  • Promote a security-first culture by guiding teams on secure coding, phishing prevention, and data protection.

 Configuration and Maintenance of Security Tools

  • Support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of security solutions, such as antivirus, endpoint protection, and data loss prevention (DLP) tools.
  • Conduct regular tuning of security devices to improve detection accuracy and minimize false positives.

Support Security Audits and Assessments

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during security assessments and audits, providing the necessary documentation and evidence.
  • Assist in implementing recommendations from audits to strengthen security controls.

 Collaboration with IT and Development Teams

  • Provide security guidance during project planning and implementation phases to ensure secure architectures.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure security best practices are followed.

 Education and Work Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Proficiency with the Microsoft Security Suite, including Microsoft Defender, Azure Security Center, and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), etc.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, software development, and systems integration.
  • Knowledge of security technologies, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

 Skills and Other Experience Desired:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
  • Experience working in a security operations center (SOC) environment.
  • Energetic, goal-oriented, detail-conscious, and methodical in their approach.
  • Excellent work ethic, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across various mediums while upholding the IT department’s commitment to customer excellence.
  • Ability to align with company core values (Innovation, Community, Excellence, Safety).

 Other Position Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and potential use of a personal vehicle for travel.
  • Regular travel to remote sites, amounting to approximately 15 or other % of the time, is expected on a quarterly basis.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer.
  • Stay informed on new and emerging trends and technologies.
  • Continual building of skills with training and certification.
