The Service & Team:

Step into the role of Cyber Security Specialist at Cornwall Council, where you'll be at the helm of safeguarding critical systems and leading innovative security initiatives. You'll be working with a dynamic team, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive the council's cyber resilience, making a tangible impact in a collaborative and high-stakes environment.

 

The Role:

Here are the key responsibilities for the Cyber Security Specialist role at Cornwall Council:

  1. Advisory and Guidance: Provide expert advice and guidance to technical teams on security decisions, ensuring the effective use of common tools and patterns.
  2. Incident Response: Lead efficient and effective cyber security incident responses, ensuring appropriate detection and reaction capabilities.
  3. Compliance Management: Manage and retain mandatory compliance standards, including PSN, CAF and PCI-DSS, and ensure alignment with ISO22301 business continuity practices.
  4. Security Architecture: Research, advise on, and apply innovative security architecture solutions to complex technical problems.
  5. Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain security policies, standards, processes, and guidelines.
  6. Training and Mentorship: Create, deliver, and maintain security training materials, and mentor other technical peers.
  7. Stakeholder Interaction: Interact with customers and senior stakeholders, influencing a wide range of people across larger teams and communities.
  8. System Governance: Govern specific internal systems and processes, making and guiding effective decisions on risk.
  9. Business Continuity: Ensure business continuity plans are reviewed, updated, and demonstrate improvement in response capabilities.
  10. Information Security Management: Maintain and update Information Security Management System records and documentation.

These responsibilities ensure the role is dynamic, impactful, and central to maintaining the security and resilience of Cornwall Council's digital infrastructure.                 

Working Pattern:

This role is for 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Expertise in maintaining the security, confidentiality, and integrity of information systems.
  • Proficiency in managing compliance with standards such as PSN, CAF and PCI-DSS.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and experience in resolving technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of ISO22301 or equivalent business continuity practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement security policies, standards, and guidelines.
