Job Description

About the thesis:

Connected devices play a vital role in enabling seamless data exchange and operational efficiency across various systems. Creating a security framework for linked devices using Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), CAN, USB (USB-A and USB-C), and newer protocols like EtherCAT, TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking), and OPC UA is the main goal of this thesis. Furthermore, the research will be expanded in the thesis to incorporate additional promising communication protocols that are anticipated to gain popularity in the future, such as MQTT, DDS (Data Distribution Service), and Matter. Even though these channels of communication are necessary for interoperability, they are susceptible to cybersecurity threats including illegal access, data breaches, and interruptions of vital functions. In order to overcome these obstacles, this study suggests a thorough security system that protects these interfaces by combining anomaly analysis, real-time threat detection, and strict policy enforcement. Additionally, from the standpoint of data privacy, a comparison of different communication channels will be carried out, assessing their encryption techniques, regulatory compliance, and inherent vulnerabilities. In order to ensure the framework's applicability and adaptability in a variety of deployment scenarios, it will be developed in compliance with applicable laws, company rules, and standards. The effectiveness of the framework will be confirmed by performance testing and controlled simulations. By addressing flaws in both well-known and new communication protocols, this thesis aims to improve the security, dependability, and privacy of linked systems.
