About This Opportunity
The Cyber Security Analyst will support the Cyber Security Operations Centre in managing daily operational activities including triage of job requests, alerts, message queues, escalating incidents and supporting investigations as needed.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Adopt, promote, and contribute to sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ’s Cyber Security Policy and according to procedures and standards developed by the University or Division.
- Lead cyber security event triage, incident detection, response, and any other related delivery of services.
- Perform vulnerability and risk analysis, and report findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain links with authorities, vendors, and relevant personnel within peer groups, and the global university and research community.
- Support team leadership in matters of budget preparation, management of the team, planning and adherence to ICT procurement guidelines.
You must be self-motivated, trustworthy and able to work effectively without close supervision.

About You
You are an enthusiastic and inquisitive individual with a genuine passion for cyber security, eager to expand your knowledge and expertise. Ideal candidates will also demonstrate:
Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, ideally with significant information technology component; Industry certification in one or more of the following areas: computer security, training, systems administration, programming, or networking.
Four years’ experience in the IT industry, with at least two years of experience relevant to IT security including IT security incident resolution and/or a CSIRT team. Some variation may be considered for applicants with a strong match to the other selection criteria.
A willingness and ability to work with other staff including in a mentorship and support role.
Formal training in one or more of the following areas:
IT security related discipline.
SANS certification in an IT security related area.
CSSLP, CISSP, or CISM certification
Knowledge and experience in at least four of the following:
TCP/IP architecture and services
Endpoint, Email, Cloud, or Network Security
Vulnerability and Risk Management
SIEM or big data tools (e.g., Elastic, Splunk, LogScale)
Programming or troubleshooting for automation
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia.
