At RTX BBN Technologies, we invent new science by applying cross-discipline techniques to tangible prototype systems to prove concept viability. Our Network and Cyber Technologies group anticipates the future in very large- and very small-scale information exchange across wired and wireless environments, spanning multiple domains including space, air, surface, and undersea.

BBN seeks esteemed and experienced Researchers skilled in Software Engineering to become an integral part of this work and expand its scope. You will contribute solid software development skills and innovative research to such diverse and critical areas as network infrastructure security, network understanding, energy conservation, content networking, mobile networking, efficient channel access, and networking within extremely harsh or hostile environments. You will pursue external funding opportunities from government research agencies like DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, etc. You will work with extraordinarily talented scientists and engineers.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop high-performance networking software in a Linux environment with a modern DevSecOps pipeline.
  • Advance networking-related research areas for BBN, having measurable impact on the business capture.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams performing business development, proposal preparation, and execution.
  • Position may require some amount of overnight travel.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field plus 10 years of related experience, or MS plus 7 years, or PhD plus 5 years.
  • 3+ years experience in disciplined Java or Kotlin for large systems, and Python software development in a Linux environment.
  • Experience working with modern software development tools and DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized code.
  • Experience with Android development.
  • Experience leading a small research and development team.
  • Experience designing, writing, debugging, and reviewing complex code to specifications/requirements.
  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government security clearance is required prior to start date.

  • Experience with systems integration.
  • Experience with business development and capture.
  • Experience with UI development.
  • Experience in C/C++ software development.
  • Experience with modern build systems such as Gradle or Maven.

The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:

The salary range for this role is 137,000 USD - 275,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
