This role may be based in San Francisco, Austin, Washington DC, or New York City.

We seek a highly motivated, detail oriented, business-minded professional with creativity, initiative, teamwork and project management skills to help lead a global team of driven crisis and resilience consultants supporting a single client across the following workstreams: crisis management, business continuity, enterprise risk management, and the range of various impact reduction consultancy engagements.

The role of Director, Crisis and Security Consulting, is a fee-earning position dedicated to a Tier 1 Control Risks client. The consultant will serve as a recognized subject matter expert, responsible to support, market, sell, and deliver crisis management, business continuity, and operational risk and resilience consulting support. Additionally, there is an expectation to support global operational crisis activation and response

This position will need to respond to crisis situations and may involve being part of an on-call rotation, especially during weekends. The positions are part of a global team and will occasionally need to work across EMEA and APAC time zones.

Tasks and responsibilities

Manage a global team across a range of crisis and resilience consulting engagements of diverse scope and complexity consistent with industry best practice and drawing on personal experiences. Specifically:

  • Maintain and develop strategic and tactical relationships within clients’ ecosystem
  • Ongoing operational management for clients, including setting and managing expectations proactively with a team of consultants.
  • End-to-end project management of client engagements, including being the primary contact to the client and managing a team of entry level consultants and analysts
  • Design and manage robust metrics and reporting related to the performance of a client’s global program
  • Assess, design, implement and improve end-to-end programs and capabilities across all previously stated resilience focus areas.
  • Develop, design and deliver scenario-based exercises for client training and testing
  • Independently identify prospects and lead business development activities, including, but not limited to, conducting client meetings, scoping and writing proposals
  • Conduct risk assessments related to broader resilience program initiatives
  • Design, develop and manage resilience governance documents
  • Lead and support strategic resilience projects for clients, including the development of maturity models
  • Lead third party risk assessment planning and development
  • Design and manage crisis management and business continuity plans at all levels of the client’s organization
  • Develop and implement workplace violence prevention initiatives for clients
  • Coordinate client facing crisis management activation and response
  • Opportunity to author thought leadership / white papers on topics that are relevant to our clients’ operating environments and risk profiles
  • Collaborate across Control Risks to help us better solve complicated client problems

Requirements

Knowledge and experience

  • 10-15 years of work experience
  • Excellent client relationship skills with a track record of global sales and engagement delivery success in a high-performing management consulting environment
  • Significant experience in enterprise resilience inclusive of crisis management, business continuity, operational risk and strategy design and development
  • Experience delivering high quality engagements in multiple client industries
  • The ability to both work independently and collaboratively as a team
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ownership and accountability to drive success both within the team and across Control Risks
  • The ability to multi-task and balance competing requirements, including client-facing, business development-related and internal matters
  • Perceptive problem-solving skills. Ability to break down problems into fundamental parts, identify root causes, synthesize findings, and make informed decisions. Confident and solution-oriented with a positive attitude
  • A high level of integrity, loyalty and discretion
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • A large degree of flexibility with regards to work schedule and peaks in work intensity
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CBCP or higher certification from DRII or equivalent organization preferred
  • Experience working for a large, global consulting firm and as an in-house manager in the areas of specialization noted above preferred
  • Experience utilizing commonly used crisis management and business continuity tools and systems that are leveraged during incident response and as part of annual storage and maintenance activities preferred
  • Experience in multiple client industries preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred

Qualifications and specialist skills

  • Ability to travel up to 25-40% of the time and on short notice with a large degree of flexibility regarding work schedule and peaks in work intensity

The base salary range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area is $175,000-$185,000 per year. The base salary for this position in all other locations is $165,000-$175,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
