ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM:
TelevisaUnivision is committed to embedding privacy by design into our products and building a world-class privacy team to enable our business strategy. The Law, Policy & Integrity team is searching for a Vice President & Assistant General Counsel focused on Privacy Law, reporting directly to the Chief Privacy Officer. The role will provide privacy counseling on the responsible use of consumer data, advise on industry-appropriate privacy and information security policies and practices, and provide transactional legal support to business units that manage consumer data (including TelevisaUnivision’s streaming service, ViX).
ABOUT YOU:
A successful candidate will have proven experience counseling businesses in the digital space on global privacy matters, including advising on risks associated with content streaming, consumer databases, and online advertising (“ad tech”). The role will interface directly with business and engineering teams, requiring a technology mindset. Proven transactional experience is also important to support our product attorneys and contract negotiations.
YOUR DAY-DAY:
- Manage a best-in-class privacy framework for a growing digital/streaming business, directly advising senior business leaders and engineering teams
- Expand and refine effective, practical controls for data collection, management, use, and storage/retention in alignment with global laws
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments to analyze risks in new or updated products, platforms, and infrastructure, simultaneously building a digital library of product and legal documentation
- Draft and negotiate appropriate privacy terms in various agreements with appropriate data use rights, including Data Protection Agreements and complex ad tech agreements
- Assist with the deployment of technology tools necessary to enable privacy compliance, e.g., cookie/consent management, data inventory, and related tools
- Provide guidance on information incident management, participate on our Information Incident Response Team, and coordinate tabletop exercises
- Monitor developments in privacy laws, regulations, and privacy-enhancing technologies and brief senior leadership on potential business impacts or opportunities
YOU HAVE:
- Juris Doctor and admitted to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction
- At least 5 years of proven experience in privacy law in a technology setting, preferably with streaming or ad tech experience
- Experience with global privacy laws, including CCPA and emerging US state laws, COPPA, VPPA, CAN-SPAM, and privacy laws across Latin America (GDPR/LGPD experience is a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and manage a privacy program for technology products or services
- Demonstrated ability to manage privacy and information security incidents and matters
- A technical degree or experience interfacing with software and platform engineers (or privacy engineers) is preferred
- IAPP certification such as CIPP/US and strong interest in the privacy field
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Please note the national salary range listed in the job posting reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations that would be applicable to the position.
Base pay Range – 260,000 – 350,000 + benefits
