As a Principal/Sr. Principal Cybersecurity Analyst you will be developing systems using current technologies and others yet to come. We are seeking team members who have a thirst for knowledge, approach each day with optimism, and have a relentless drive to solve complex problems. Creativity and innovation are imperative for this role, because at Northrop Grumman, many of the problems we work on are impossible… until they’re not. This position will be based in our Colorado Springs facility.

The selected candidate will support system development efforts and will identify cybersecurity risks and design, develop, integrate, test, and verify system security solutions. The candidate will be responsible for identifying cybersecurity risks, working with stakeholders to develop a technical and programmatic plan for remediation, and driving the incorporation of cybersecurity improvements into the weapon system. This role requires in depth knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and hands on experience using security compliance tools (e.g., ACAS, SCAP, STIG, SCC), and the ability to develop artifacts (RAR, SSP, POA&M, SAR, SCTM, ConMon) to achieve and maintain an ATO. 


In this position you will also be required to conduct remediation and patch management activities on operating systems and various COTS/GOTS applications, including those within virtualized and/or segregated environments. You will participate in drafting and providing inputs to the DARC Vulnerability Management Plan and Patching process. This job requires working with software developers, systems engineers, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical and programmatic cybersecurity concerns.

You may also get to do the following: 

  • Work as a technical contributor in an Agile engineering environment, where the Sr. Principal Systems Security Engineer will identify and prioritize security requirements and conduct Vulnerability and Compliance checks using various scanning tools (e.g. ACAS, SCC, NMAP, WireShark).
  • The security engineer will analyze findings, conduct risk assessments, and identify impact potentials.
  • Author, and maintain cybersecurity program documentation & RMF package artifacts:  Cybersecurity Strategies, System Security Plans, Continuous Monitoring Plans, Risk Assessment Report, Security Control Traceability Matrix, Plan Of Actions & Milestones, etc.
  •  Support the architecture and design of baked in cybersecurity requirements and protections.
  •  Implement and review traceability of requirements to the design & its models.
  •  Experience implementing cybersecurity artifacts in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) Architecture.
  • Provide cybersecurity system engineering implementation guidance and oversight to technical teams.
  • Implement, review and assess cybersecurity system requirements verification/validation methods.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Cybersecurity Analyst :

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years relevant experience in cybersecurity; Master's degree and at least 3 years relevant experience in cybersecurity; PhD and 1 year of relevant experience in cybersecurity. An additional 4 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A current/active DoD Secret clearance at time of application
  • Active IAT Level II (CompTIA Security+) certification or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Hands on experience with at least one of the following Vulnerability / Compliance tools (SCC, ACAS, Nessus) 
  • Direct experience developing RMF assessment and authorization artifacts in accordance with NIST SP 800-37
  • Proficiency with Red Hat Linux
  • Experience remediating, mitigating, and documenting cybersecurity vulnerabilities
  • Experience configuring and patching Linux systems with Red Hat Satellite and Capsules
  • Hands-on experience scripting, installing, and testing patches on Linux hosts

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years relevant experience in cybersecurity; Master's degree and at least 6 years relevant experience in cybersecurity; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity. An additional 4 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A current/active DoD Secret clearance at time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in the Defense Industry, prior experience working in restricted facilities.
  • Understanding of the requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation process. 
  • Understanding of the Systems Engineering processes and milestones
  • Prior experience working in a Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) Architecture
  • Working knowledge of technical security controls and the RMF process as defined in NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-37 respectively  
  • Working knowledge of programming/scripting languages (e.g. C, C++, Python)
  • Experience defining software requirements and reviewing or developing verification tests
  • Experience with writing and deploying Ansible playbooks
  • Experience with implementing cyber compliance tools in an enterprise (ACAS, SIEM, EDR/SOAR)
  • Experience leading technical projects and teams

Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
