Wildfire Peril Lead (Natural Catastrophe Risk) (Hybrid - m/f/x/d - 80% - 100%)

We are looking for a new team member to join the Cat Perils EMEA & Methods team, part of Swiss Re's global in-house natural catastrophe modelling unit. While the position is Zurich-based, the mandate of Wildfire peril lead is global.
About the Role
In this role you will own the Cat Perils agenda related to wildfire risk, including hands-on risk-view development, analytics and communication.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Build, maintain, and communicate the next generation of Nat Cat models globally, with a focus on wildfire
- Contribute to and lead cross regional team projects
- Foster common view and narrative around wildfire risk in the re/insurance context, including the impact of climate change
- Engage with clients, investors, and media representatives on topics related to wildfire and Swiss Re's Nat Cat underwriting more broadly
About the Team
The Cat Perils EMEA & Methods team is one of the three regional teams in the Cat Perils department ("Cat Perils") which is responsible for Swiss Re’s global natural catastrophe risk assessment. With our proprietary modelling technology for natural catastrophe perils, we bring latest science to underwriting decision-making, working closely with peers in re/insurance underwriting and further support our business in all matters related to natural catastrophe risk. We create value for Swiss Re by driving confident Nat Cat decisions.
About You

Technical skills and education
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in natural sciences or engineering (Ph. D. preferred)
- 6+ years of working experience, at least 4+ years in the re/insurance industry, underwriting experience is an asset
- In-depth experience with probabilistic natural catastrophe modelling for atmospheric perils. Proven experience/knowledge of wildfire risk modelling is a plus.
- Strong computer programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, R) and hands-on experience with geo-spatial data analytics
- Experience with statistics and machine learning, GIS is a plus.
- Strong mathematical, statistical, analytical and conceptual skills
- Solid project management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written mediums with technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent verbal and written English
