Position Description:
The Alcon R&D team is seeking motivated and talented interns to join us for a Summer 2025 Internship at our Lake Forest, CA location. As an Alcon intern, you’ll gain invaluable industry experience, expand your professional network, and have the opportunity to make a real-world impact by working on meaningful projects that help patients and customers see brilliantly. Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation R&D – Lake Forest, CA

• Gain an understanding of the software development process according to Alcon’s SOPs used for medical device development, learning the rigor required for equipment and software creation.

• Participate in the full product development lifecycle: refining requirements, evaluating risks, testing, developing software, troubleshooting, and tracking project progress.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the diverse roles involved in product development.

• Translate classroom knowledge into real-world solutions, expanding your understanding of medical device instrumentation.

Medical Digital Solutions – Lake Forest, CA

• Develop and deploy algorithms, write and document code, and manage cloud environments.

• Create efficient data management and storage techniques to speed up access to data and support AI prediction models. Pre-process data from various sources to quickly create, test, and validate different AI models. Recommend the most promising machine learning models and digital solutions to pursue after the internship.

• Analyze video data to identify key factors affecting annotations, conduct literature reviews, and support algorithm development. Organize clinical data for deeper investigations.

• Develop computer vision and deep learning algorithms using clinical videos, such as aligning patient eye images and testing these algorithms using model eye data.

• Develop and integrate product security processes, technologies, tools, and control measures into Alcon products and digital solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college and have completed at least one semester prior to the internship, with at least one additional semester following the internship.

• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Software, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Vision Science, Computational Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.

• Demonstrated leadership skills through extracurricular activities or projects.

• Authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (F1 visa students with CPT may be accommodated).

• Ability to commit to a full-time internship (40 hours per week).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Independent, self-starter.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Collaborative team player.

• Cybersecurity certification.

• Knowledge or experience in information security.
