Job Duties

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at VSDB is responsible for ensuring the alignment of the institution's technological infrastructure with its educational mission and organizational goals. This role aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce risks, and support innovation through effective IT management. The CIO will lead efforts to integrate advanced technologies, manage resources strategically, and develop robust information security and disaster recovery systems. By fostering collaboration, promoting compliance with regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement, the CIO ensures that VSDB remains at the forefront of technological excellence, ultimately empowering students and faculty to achieve their full potential. The position
will work closely with VSDB leadership, staff, the Board of Visitors, and other constituents to further the mission of the school.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated strong technical and system administration experience to effectively align the institution's technological initiatives with its goals.
• Demonstrated expertise in IT infrastructure, systems, and security, along with a thorough understanding of compliance requirements and adherence to IT best practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of IT governance, project management, financial oversight, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Preferred knowledge or experience of educational environments, especially those serving special needs populations, in order to understand and tailor solutions to the unique needs of all stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills in working with IT teams, vendors, and team members with varying levels of knowledge and capabilities.
• Demonstrated experience in fostering collaborative relationships, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining robust information security systems and disaster recovery plans. The ability to analyze risks, implement solutions, and the ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated skill in adaptability and cultural competence within an inclusive work environment.
• Demonstrated skills in the following key areas of strategic thinking, results orientation, and ethical practice, supported by strong technical expertise and system administration skills.
• Demonstrated skills in being innovative while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and IT best practices, while achieving measurable beneficial outcomes.
• Ability to enhance organizational technological capabilities, while creating a secure, efficient, and innovative learning environment for all stakeholders.
• Preferred demonstrated American Sign Language skills at proficiency level of "Survival" (ASL), as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview, or agreement to acquire this level of proficiency within three years.

Additional Considerations

• A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
• An equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or certifications may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Licensure/Certification:
• No specific licensure is required for entry into the position.
• Relevant certifications in IT management or related fields (preferred but not mandatory), such as:
o Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
o Project Management Professional (PMP)
o Certified Information Technology Manager (CITM)
o IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification
