IGS is currently recruiting for a remote Network Administrator/Engineer to support our work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). 


Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is an on-site opportunity for the Austin, TX area, hybrid is a possible option. Candidates will access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.


Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Maintain configuration of Cisco Nexus 9000 and 5000 series switches, Palo Alto Firewall, F5 Load Balancer, Mellanox network switches and routers for moves, additions and modifications.
  • Support/ manage network maintenance and upgrade activities.
  • Review logs from network devices for issues (interface errors, connectivity issues, failed ports, security scans) and report via telephone or email to the technical PM.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to resolve network issues and provide best practices to prevent network issues in the future. 
  • Conduct performance monitoring (patches, updates, add hosts) and provide and maintain logs of issues that occurred.
  • Review monitoring tools (SolarWinds) for WAN performance issues, correlating end user authentication & Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) network9 performance issues caused by latency or congestion.
  • Conduct Firewall configuration and maintenance support.
  • Audit firewall logs for issues and perform Data Loss Prevention (DLP) reviews weekly and report via telephone or email to the technical PM.
  • Provide input to the Weekly Status report with completed and upcoming tasks.
  • Support ATO activities and update ATO documentation as necessary. 

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of Network Administration and/or Engineering experience in a large data warehouse.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networks: Layer 2 and routing protocols (OSPF and BGP)
  • Experience configuring routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco and Palo Alto experience preferred).
  • Experience with other network appliances and/or other network monitoring tools (Nagios, Cacti, Splunk, SolarWinds, etc) 
  • Hands on experience with security tools and ATO documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain VA Public Trust. 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship due to clearance requirement.  

Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Commutable distance to Austin, TX      
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or IT-related field or Engineering or related degree in engineering or engineering technology preferred.
  • Network certifications (CISSP, CCNA, CCNP, Net+, SolarWinds) 
  • Must be a self-motivator with ability to work remotely as part of a team, or independently with little      supervision or direction 
  • Knowledge of VA Operating divisions 
  • Active VA Public Trust

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
