KBR's Defense & Technology Solutions business unit is seeking candidates for a Skillbridge internship or part-time position. This part-time role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in system administration while working on classified government systems. It requires attention to detail, adherence to security policies, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Program Summary:

The Commercial Security Services program provides comprehensive personnel, facility, and cybersecurity services to small, medium, and large commercial government contractors. Designed to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and protect sensitive operations, the program is tailored to meet the unique needs of contractors navigating complex security requirements.

Program Introduction:

The purpose of the Commercial Security program is to deliver trusted, end-to-end security solutions that enable government contractors to focus on their mission while safeguarding their operations. The cybersecurity portion of the program is focused on protecting contractors from evolving digital threats by implementing robust frameworks like RMF in compliance with DFARS 252.20-7012, NIST SP 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, and IC policy, conducting risk assessments, creating POAM matrix, and ensuring compliance with standards such as CMMC. Our objective is to have contractors achieve operational resilience by proactively addressing vulnerabilities and enhancing their overall cybersecurity posture.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Administering computer systems hardware, software, information systems, and peripheral equipment such as servers, desktops, storage devices, and virtualization infrastructure.
  • Maintaining, installing, upgrading, and configuring data systems
  • Administering operating systems (Windows/Linux) and performing basic security and recovery procedures, including patches, system backups, and auditing.
  • Managing infrastructure, including servers, zero clients, malware protection software, HBSS, and syslog servers.
  • Solving problems under general supervision using knowledge of field and industry best practices.
  • Assisting in system upgrades and implementing security solutions for enhanced functionality and issue resolution.
  • Identifying potential risks or inefficiencies in system configurations and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with data security policies, DOD cybersecurity program implementation plans, and relevant RMF requirements.
  • Daily and weekly team meetings
  • Ability to move, rack, stack, and install physical equipment (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on data research and analytical methodologies.
  • Ability to work on customer site in Arlington, VA

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of related experience.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Polygraph required.
  • Cybersecurity certification required (Security +, GSEC, CASP, or CISSP)
  • Familiarity with operating system functions, security policies, and technical security safeguards.
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-53, DoD 5205.07 Series, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Joint SAP Implementation Guide requirements.
  • Experience with performance monitoring, auditing, upgrades, patching, backups, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Familiarity with Tenable Security Center, Splunk, and Trellix.

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with Windows user account management and access controls.
  • Systems administration experience in U.S. Government classified environments.
  • Familiarity with applying DISA STIGs and resolving security vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of authentication mechanisms (e.g., Kerberos, LDAP, NTLM) and associated troubleshooting tools.
  • Understanding of technologies such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and WSUS.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SMTP, NFS, FTP, Telnet, SSH).
  • Experience installing and configuring Windows 10/11 workstations and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with network-attached storage (NAS) or storage area networks (SAN).
  • Experience conducting audits of IT components for compliance with established standards and policies.
