IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking an IT Security Team Lead. We have a wide range of digital assets to defend, a multitude of threats to defend against, and an audience of educators and parents who are understandably skeptical that we can keep their data safe. As IT Security Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the cybersecurity strategy and operations within the organization. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining security policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard the organization’s IT infrastructure, data, and networks. You will lead a team of security professionals, conduct risk assessments, and collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. #LI-KO1

This is a full-time position in our San Mateo, CA headquarters office.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Develop and implement comprehensive IT security strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the organization’s networks, systems, and data
  • Stay current on the latest security threats and trends and adjust security practices accordingly
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability assessments to identify potential security gaps and recommend mitigations
  • Implement risk management processes to evaluate the potential impact of security threats and take proactive measures
  • Lead the organization’s response to security incidents, including threat detection, containment, and resolution
  • Develop and maintain an incident response plan and conduct periodic drills and simulations
  • Manage security tools and technologies, such as SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and antivirus software
  • Manage and mentor a team of IT security professionals, providing guidance on best practices, project management, and career development
  • Conduct ongoing security training for employees to raise awareness about security risks and safe practices
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS, StateRAMP, SOC2)
  • Work closely with auditors to ensure audits and assessments are completed, and recommend security improvements based on findings
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of security measures with business goals
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure IT architecture, including network security, endpoint security, and cloud security solutions
  • Ensure proper segmentation of networks and systems to minimize the impact of potential breaches

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field (required)
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA, CompTIA Security+, CEH, etc.) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT security or a related field, with at least 1 year in a leadership or managerial role
  • Strong knowledge of network security, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and endpoint protection technologies
  • Familiarity with cloud security, including AWS and Google Cloud environments
  • Expertise in security best practices, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficient in using security monitoring and management tools (e.g., SIEM, firewalls, antivirus, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organization and written communication skills

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 to $160,000 + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
