BWX Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Cyber Security Engineer for its location in Erwin, TN!

 

The Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for proactively monitoring event sources for anomalies and developing creative ways to leverage technology to accomplish high priority security objectives, conduct vulnerability assessments, and handle incident response activities.  The responsibilities of the Cyber Security Engineer include the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of information systems and technology solutions in support of the BWXT/Nuclear Fuel Services division. As necessary, this position requires availability after working hours to handle critical issues. This role reports directly to the Information Systems Security Manager.

 

Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, configures, deploys, and maintains Cyber Security systems and solutions; including SIEM tools, vulnerability management solutions, virus detection, data loss prevention, intrusion detection systems, and intrusion prevention systems.
  • Offers technical information security consulting services to support business initiatives that require risk assessments and threat modeling of technology solutions.
  • Evaluates information system bug reports, threat intelligence, security exploit reports, and other information security notices issued by information system vendors, government agencies, universities, professional associations, and other organizations, and as needed, makes recommendations to internal management and technical staff to take precautionary steps.
  • Utilizes vulnerability assessment software and related tools to immediately highlight errors in systems configuration, the need for software updates, fixes and patches, and other security related changes.
  • Acts as a technical consultant on information security incident investigations and performs digital forensic analysis of data evidence and malware samples.
  • Performs administration of the centralized logging platform, develops custom dashboards to monitor security status of the environment, and produces periodic reports of key performance indicators and key risk indicators to support Cyber Security metrics at the executive and operational levels.
  • Serves as an active member of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) and participates in security incident response efforts by directing first responders to triage an event and performing advanced response actions for escalated events.
  • Works closely with IT Operations and IT Applications as needed to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Assists with other information assurance activities required to maintain compliance with contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess technical skills and experience with the following:  SIEM administration (Splunk preferred), Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Objects, Linux operating systems, network intrusion detection system (IDS) administration, antivirus administration consoles, and advanced cyber security toolkits, malware analysis, and digital forensics tools. 
  • Understanding of open-source and other tools to assist in detection, prevention, and analysis of security threats.
  • Must have a working knowledge of system functions, cyber security policies, and cyber security protection requirements.

  • Must have excellent communications skills; candidates are encouraged to submit a sample of a technical report authored by the candidate.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems and work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with customers and business users during the course of daily support and on complex projects.
  • Ability to remain current with new technology developments and trends and continue to grow their skills to leverage these new advances.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Candidate must obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference given to candidates who hold any of the following, equivalent, or more advanced certifications: CISSP, Security+, CYSA+, CCNA, CEH, GCIH, Splunk Core Certified Power User.

 

 

Pay: $63,000 - $99,000

 

The base salary range for this position in TN at the start of employment is expected to be between $63,000 and $99,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
