The Integrated Threat and Risk Assessment Centre (ITRAC) assesses threats and develops risk reduction plans for domestic violence and stalking cases in Alberta, as well as provides expert advice and training about threat assessment, domestic violence, and stalking to police, government and other stakeholders throughout the province.

Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about promoting safety, reducing acts of violence, and protecting vulnerable individuals? The Integrated Threat and Risk Assessment Centre (ITRAC) is seeking a knowledgeable, proactive, and collaborative professional to join our dynamic team as a Threat Assessor. This is a unique and challenging role where you will play an integral part in reducing domestic violence and increasing public safety across Alberta.

Reporting to the ITRAC Operations Manager, you will provide expertise and support in the area of threat and risk assessment to police agencies, corrections entities, Crowns, the Judiciary, Children’s Services, victims programs, and other stakeholders in Alberta. 

You will provide expertise in threat and risk assessment to various stakeholders, including police agencies, corrections entities, Crowns, the Judiciary, Children’s Services, and victims' programs across Alberta. You will be responsible for delivering independent and expert threat assessments, utilizing structured analytical techniques, and offering actionable recommendations to reduce risk and enhance safety

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Conducting objective, thorough, and timely threat and risk assessments by identifying potential victims, risk factors, and risk mitigation strategies, including safety plans and intervention opportunities.
  • Reviewing extensive volumes of documentation and information to ensure robust and evidence-based assessments.
  • Developing comprehensive case management plans and providing actionable risk mitigation recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Providing expert recommendations through professional, concise, well-articulated, and defensible reports.
  • Preparing and presenting expert opinion testimony related to threat assessment and domestic violence in court proceedings as required.
  • Staying current with threat assessment methodologies by engaging in professional development activities, including training, conferences, and workshops.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders to formulate risk management strategies tailored to specific cases.
  • Assisting in maintaining ITRAC’s high standards for professional and timely service delivery


As the successful candidate, you will have excellent knowledge of domestic violence, law enforcement, criminal justice, and court and government agency processes. You will also possess familiarity with legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada, FOIPP, PIPA, and the Privacy Act.

Qualifications

Human Relations Level 3: A minimum of a university degree in a related field (e.g. Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Law etc.) from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent as described.

Equivalencies will be considered on a 1:1 one basis, as in one year of education for one year of experience.

Please note, if you possess a threat assessor certification, this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis for equivalency and relevance.

Previous experience conducting risk assessments/risk management related to the criminal justice system and/or the forensic mental health system is also preferred. 

The following will be considered assets:
 

  • Familiarity with formal risk assessment tools, via either research or clinical application.
  • Previous experience administering standardized testing in a forensic, criminal justice, or mental health setting.
  • Masters or Advanced degree in a related field (Forensic sciencespsychology, criminology etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, stalking behaviors, safety planning, and case management to minimize risk.
  • Familiarity with key legislation, judicial processes, and stakeholder roles, including Emergency Protection Orders and victim advocacy.
  • Previous experience with presenting Court Evidence and/or Expert Opinion Evidence.

This position is full time and will be located in Edmonton, Alberta and will work Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours a week.

Please note that this position requires occasional travel throughout the province. The successful candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain a RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security clearance.

Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.  

Candidates will be required to complete a writing/case study test that will be used to assess their suitability for the role.
