Senior Security Analyst 

Corporate Services – IT Operations

 

Status: (1) Regular Full-Time position  

Salary Range: $89,469 to $111,834 per annum 

Work Mode: Hybrid *see below for more details about this work mode

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week; able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, on-call rotation and/or shift work

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite

 

Are you a seasoned security expert with a passion for safeguarding complex environments and driving technological innovation? We’re looking for a Senior Security Analyst to lead the integration and management of cutting-edge security technologies, ensuring the protection of critical infrastructure and data across the organization.

 

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and implementing robust security solutions to meet the evolving needs of the business. You’ll provide technical leadership and expert guidance to a team of Security Analysts, helping to protect against unauthorized access, integrity violations, and other security threats. From firewalls to cloud access security brokers, you’ll work with a wide range of technologies to ensure the organization’s security posture is world-class.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead & Mentor: Provide technical leadership and expert advice to Security Analysts, guiding them through complex technical challenges and ensuring effective solutions are implemented.
  • Evaluate & Recommend: Research and recommend new security products or services that can improve security delivery and efficiency, ensuring the organization stays ahead of potential threats.
  • Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Use your deep technical knowledge to resolve complex security issues, from troubleshooting to identifying permanent fixes for vulnerabilities. You’ll be the go-to expert when new or unusual security challenges arise.
  • Project Leadership: Lead initiatives to research, evaluate, test, and implement new security technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the work of Security Analysts, reviewing technical documentation and ensuring that new product builds meet rigorous quality standards before deployment.
  • Patch Management: Analyze security patches for potential vulnerabilities and assess their stability and impact on the production environment, ensuring that only the most effective and secure patches are deployed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the security team and IT services division. You’ll proactively contribute to improving operational processes and procedures.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work alongside other IT professionals and departmental teams to contribute to project planning, implementation, and ongoing support for security services. Your input will be critical in shaping future service offerings.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with emerging security technologies and best practices to ensure you maintain and upgrade your skills in this fast-paced, ever-evolving field.
  • Adherence to Standards: Perform all duties in strict alignment with IT standards and security policies, ensuring compliance with best practices and organizational guidelines.

 

What the role requires:

  • University or college graduate in computer science or related discipline with minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar technology infrastructure environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expert knowledge of networking systems (DNS, Active Directory and Azure Active Directory), protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, VoIP, xDSL, TCP/IP and 802.1x.
  • Proficiency with security/authority systems in use at the Region of Peel (e.g. firewalls, virtual private networks, endpoint protection discovery and response, intrusion prevention, cloud access security broker, Microsoft Active Directory and Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Office 365, as well as other associated components
  • Demonstrated knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention system and protocols, penetration and vulnerability testing, advanced threat protection, mail & web filters, security information and event management, network protocols and packet analysis tools
  • Progressive technical knowledge and knowledge of best practices in Information Technology service delivery such as SDLC, PMBOK, COBIT and ITIL

  • Demonstrates analytical skills along with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Exercise sound judgement and make decisions within scope of position
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

 

Nice to have:  

  • Certification in PMBOK, COBIT and ITIL an asset
  • Knowledge of following products like Check Point, Microsoft cloud security technologies, services and best practices, and Cisco security technologies will be considered an asset
  • Certification in Information Security (e.g. CISSP, CISM. GIAC) is an asset

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
