Job Description:

Role: Publishing Editor, Risk & Compliance Journal

Dow Jones Risk Journal is seeking an experienced journalist to edit coverage of global risk, compliance and regulatory issues affecting companies and financial institutions.

The editor will be responsible for editing and publishing copy for Dow Jones Risk Journal, including its digital news sites and newsletters. The editor will share responsibility for ensuring the digital sites and newsletters are complete, engaging, timely and appropriately prioritized. The editor will ensure that storytelling is enhanced with visuals and data, and will take a lead role in posting content on social media.

The position calls for a multi-talented journalist who possesses an understanding of – or eagerness to delve into – areas such as sanctions, anti-corruption, financial crime, cybersecurity, regulatory intelligence, and geopolitical, economic and supply chain risks. Dow Jones Risk Journal serves an audience of risk, compliance and legal professionals as well as executives throughout businesses who are responsible for assessing and mitigating risks.

This editor must have a keen understanding of the needs of business and financial professionals, and be capable of publishing top-quality coverage that informs readers, puts news developments into context and provides actionable analysis. This editor should approach their journalism from the perspective of ensuring it can help the readers in their day-to-day work. Sometimes this should include practical takeaways that can be applied by risk and compliance professionals to enhance their policies, programs or strategic discussions.

The person in this position will be an accomplished editor who can spot mistakes, ask important questions when there are holes and work with writers to adjust the structure of stories when needed. This editor must have a track record of producing accurate and clean copy; upholding journalistic standards; and working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This editor must be detail-oriented, be able to juggle multiple tasks and work effectively across the newsroom. This editor may also assist in commissioning articles from outside contributors. 

This position will be based in our New York City office.

You Will: 

  • Edit and publish copy that is informative, analytical and delivers actionable context

  • Quickly and sharply edit for accuracy, clarity, fairness, grammar and style

  • Exercise strong news judgment in headline writing, editing and fast-paced publishing 

  • Ensure news is prioritized, complete, engaging and enhanced with visuals and data

  • Post content to social media

  • Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics in your own work and that of others

  • Be a part of an ambitious newsroom with a can-do, startup culture

You Have: 

  • 5+ years of experience as a news editor

  • Subject matter expertise

  • An aptitude for learning software and publishing tools

  • An eye for enhancing storytelling with visuals and data

Pay Range: $105,000 - $115,000
