The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking two full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track Instructors in anthropology, biology, chemistry, criminalistics, statistics, computer science and/or other related fields to teach courses in our Forensic Sciences programs (Forensic Science, BS; Forensic Science (Death Investigations), BS; Computational Forensics, BS). The successful candidates will be required to teach up to 10-15 courses per year (5-5 per semester with summer teaching available.) for undergraduate or graduate students. This position may teach in-person, online, or a hybrid schedule. Instructors are pedagogical specialists who bear the primary responsibility for their assigned courses. Successful candidates will demonstrate throughout their materials how their teaching, research, and service will contribute to the fulfillment of this charter.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach courses in relevant areas.
  • Teach upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate students, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
  • Prepare syllabus, lectures and class materials, exams, order textbooks, and grade assignments and exams.
  • Maintain and update course materials as requested and appropriate to the field and modality.
  • Instructors who teach face-to-face, hybrid, or iCourses, courses taught to campus-based students, are required to hold in-person office hours on ASU’s West Valley campus for at least two hours per week.
  • Instructors who are hired to teach oCourses, courses taught to students in ASU Online degree programs, are required to hold office hours online.
  • Monitor student success and regularly review student progress.
  • Foster collegiality in the college.
  • Complete periodic mandatory training in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and respond to university, college, and school communication and requests.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in forensic science or related field or bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience at the time of hire

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Doctoral Degree preferred
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience
  • Experience in online and in-person instruction
  • Three (3) years of professional forensic scientist experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students
  • Evidence of teaching excellence e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc. 

 Teaching/Student evaluations may be required at the time of the interview.
