System Security Engineer

The System Security Engineer will support the operational capabilities and continued evolution that ensures data validity, compliance, and security, and integrates new tools into each system. The incumbent will provide solutions in the form of frameworks, models, tools, practices, technical guidance, and training providing support to all research organizations.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Design , program and implement new security designs, procedures and software for new or existing operational environments.
• Ensuring all applicable cybersecurity policy, plans and procedures are followed.
• Ensuring required cybersecurity controls are implemented and validated, to include continuous monitoring actions for assigned systems.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of cybersecurity related plans, procedures and guidance.
• Monitoring and recognizing non-compliance, suspicious and anomalous activity (i.e., threats), and effectively reporting such activity and associated risks to the appropriate parties.
• Ensuring plans of actions and milestones or remediation plans are in place.
• Perform and review technical security assessments of computing environments to identify and pinpoint vulnerabilities identified during monitoring activity, audits, inspections, etc., and implement, or oversee, required corrective actions.
• Conducting role-based cybersecurity training for assigned users.
• Creating, collecting and retaining data to meet reporting requirements.
• Support multiple software and database in Research that contains sensitive data.
• Access, manage and maintain all computers in OVPR supporting offices with admin privileges.
• Access, manage and maintain CUI (Control Unclassified Information ) labs in multiple research offices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert, trusted advisor, and work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams solving difficult customer challenges.
• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve reported support issues and requests
• Perform initial diagnosis and determine if escalation is necessary
• Create, develop and prepare reports as assigned
• Install and maintain both hardware and software
• Serve as a troubleshooter in the implementation and use of workstations and associated software and hardware
• Log and track requests received from clients
• Participate in special projects as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 5 years in a Research IT environment. or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent knowledge of current Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), and Adobe Acrobat Professional Suite
• Proficiency in delivering web-based training
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Strong customer service orientation in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Clearance Level: Secret or Top Secret
• Security+ Certification
• Network+ Certification
• Microsoft Security Operations Analyst Certification
• US Citizenship is required
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• CMMC Training
