Job Description
Overview
The Security Analyst assists in the design, implementation, and analysis of computer security structures for the City. Analyzes user access control software, physical security, and disaster recovery to ensure protection of equipment, program software, and data files.
Essential Functions
Assesses, evaluates, and determines information risk; supports remediation measures of identified vulnerabilities for IT security and IT risk across the City of Dallas IT infrastructures; reports on findings and makes recommendations for corrective action; works with senior level staff to perform vulnerability assessments as assigned utilizing IT security tools and methodologies.
2 Designs, installs, and maintains security software packages; issues passwords and proper authorization for system access to ensure protection of computer software and data files on the City's mainframe and LAN computers.
3 Analyzes changes in the operating system, data fields, and software to ensure appropriate safeguards are maintained on the system; evaluates and analyzes alarms from the security applications and respond; accordingly, reviews report from the systems.
4 Assists in the development of procedures and contingency plans for disaster recovery and implements off-site storage of back-up computer tapes; tests the procedures to ensure adequate recovery can be accomplished for data files and software.
5 Participates in internal audits of computer facilities to ensure operating procedures are being followed and develops risk analysis and vulnerability studies of software and physical security.
6 Communicates with vendors, users, and system programmers to coordinate the development and implementation of enhancements and maintenance to the installed security software systems.
7 Develops and drafts reports on security measures and risk mitigation activities.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of PC, network, and Internet hardware, architecture, operating systems, and software.
2 Knowledge of systems programming or applications programming.
3 Knowledge of security software packages.
4 Knowledge of information access techniques and technologies.
5 Ability to review security policies, analyze risk, and make recommendations.
6 Ability to remain on call for emergencies.
7 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years of experience in computing, IT (Information Technology) desktop, Help Desk, or call center.
EQUIVALENCIES:
- High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a non-specified field plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to pass a background check for compliance with state and federal requirements on criminal justice information security standards.
No FELONY or Class A misdemeanor convictions.
No Class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years.
No family violence convictions
Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor or class B misdemeanor charge
Salary Range
