Based in our Rydalmere office, on Dharung land, this role will lead the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) functions across the UVX, AMS, and Cyber business lines.

 

You will provide thought leadership, expert advice, and direction on HSE matters, aligning with industry best practices, safety theory, and both corporate and business-specific HSE strategies.

 

 Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish a framework to enhance HSE leadership capabilities, ensuring safe work practices are ingrained as a line responsibility

  • Lead the HSE team to deliver timely support across all aspects of the UVX, AMS, and Cyber business lines

  • Align domain HSE priorities and resources with business line strategies, ensuring systems and improvement plans (OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001) are implemented, considering domain-specific requirements

  • Lead the Country Business Unit Leadership team and employees in minimising environmental impact

  • Establish a baseline for high-risk activities, identify and assess domain-specific HSE risks and ensuring compliance with HSE regulations

  • Oversee competency, certification, training, and compliance records in the Thales system

  • Ensure hazards, incidents, and injuries are reported, investigated, controlled, and communicated, with emergency response programs in place

  • Provide reports and analysis on HSE targets and objectives, collaborating with HSE Managers to drive continuous improvement

 

 

On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours:

 

  • Significant experience leading HSE in large, complex organizations, ideally in industrial settings, with national or multi-business unit responsibilities

  • Extensive experience with OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001, AS/NZS 4801, and ISO 14001 HSE Management Systems

  • Proven track record in executing HSE strategies in high-risk environments, particularly in industrial sectors

  • Strong understanding of Injury Management, Workers Compensation, and Health Promotion

  • Expertise in implementing systems to assess and minimise environmental impact

  • Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, presentation, report writing, and audit abilities

  • Skilled in organisational change facilitation and stakeholder management to achieve outcomes and ability to build consultative relationships with customers to drive collaborative improvements

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in work health and safety, risk management, or a related field

  • Ability to obtain Australian Defence Clearances
