Job Description

The Cyber Crime Bureau (CCB) has an immediate opening for a Digital Forensic Analyst in its High-Tech Analysis Unit (HTAU). CCB is committed to protecting the public by combating sophisticated cybercrime schemes in Manhattan and worldwide. HTAU Analysts conduct digital forensic examinations of devices on criminal cases across the District Attorney’s Office – from cryptocurrency and SIM-swapping to sex trafficking, robbery, and homicide cases. In this position, the Digital Forensic Analyst is responsible for providing highly sophisticated technical forensic analytical support to any criminal investigation and prosecution conducted by the Bureau and the office at large.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Perform case intake duties.
- Prepare new case files and chain of custody documentation; label evidence received by laboratory.
- Perform data entry functions by logging evidence into the unit’s case tracking system.
- Perform analyses of mobile electronic devices including but not limited to cellular telephones, tablets, GPS equipment, etc.
- Disassemble, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware.
- Prepare forensic images and organize and upload case file images for archival purposes.
- Conduct computer forensic analyses according to case requests/statements of work; prepare detailed reports of findings.
- Testify to findings in Grand Jury and Trial proceedings.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.


In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, all candidates must possess the following:

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college (preferably in Forensic Computing, Computer Science or Computer Security) and
- Two (2) – three (3) years’ experience in a digital forensics field or 2 years of equivalent graduate study in forensic computing.

*Master’s degree can be substituted for years of experience. *


Preferred Requirements/Skills:

- Certified forensic examiners are preferred (please cite certification type and date obtained on your cover letter and resume).
- Thorough knowledge of Computer Forensic Industry standards, chain of custody procedures, forensic methodologies, best practices, and evidence handling are required.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to update and edit existing databases.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
- Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
- Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and able to multi-task.


Hours/Shift:

- Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

- Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
- Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
