We are seeking the following:
Administration Interns (2 positions)
The ideal candidates will be business administration (or related) majors; these interns will learn about the day-to-day operations of a state agency and will assist with various administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, proofreading correspondence and assisting with the various coordination efforts of the entire administrative team. College coursework in the human resources field is a plus.
Communications Intern (1 position)
The communications intern will assist with communications efforts across the full VITA program, including internal, external, customer-focused, and executive communications. The candidate will be exposed to the dynamic industry of technology, while also afforded the opportunity to develop content across multiple channels, create communications plans, help develop creative materials, and support tracking of communications-based metrics. Additional consideration will be given to student candidates pursuing communications, public relations and/or marketing degrees, but it is not required for final selection.
Customer Experience Interns (3 Positions)
The Customer Experience is looking for three interns.
- The Supply Chain Management Division (SCM) is seeking a proactive and analytical intern to support various aspects of supply chain planning, governance, and management. The Supply Chain Management intern will participate in a rotational internship program to include projects in the following key areas of Supply Chain Management: strategic sourcing, market research and financial analysis, contract risk management, and supply chain process improvement and documentation. The candidate will gain valuable experience working in the fast paced and dynamic industry of public sector IT sourcing & contracting. Candidates with coursework or experience in IT management, finance, supply chain management, business analysis, or government administration will receive additional consideration, but is not required for final selection. All detail-oriented and analytical students with an interest in technology and supply chain management are encouraged to apply. (1 position)
- The IT Investment Management Division (ITIM) is seeking a proactive and analytical intern to support various aspects of technology investment planning, governance, and portfolio management. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in IT investment processes, budget analysis, and strategic technology planning while working alongside experienced professionals in the field. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in business administration, information technology, finance, public administration, or a related field. The intern will assist in key activities related to IT investment evaluation, reporting, and governance while gaining exposure to enterprise IT decision-making frameworks and best practices. (1 position)
- The Project Management Division (PMD) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support various project management functions within the organization. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project planning, execution, and coordination while working alongside experienced project managers. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in business administration, project management, operations management, or a related field. The intern will assist in key project management activities, including scheduling meetings, tracking project milestones, preparing reports, and supporting cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, the intern will gain exposure to project management methodologies, tools, and best practices used in a professional setting. (1 position)
Cybersecurity Risk Management (6 Positions)
The Cybersecurity Risk Management team is looking for six interns.
- The IT Security Governance interns will assist with supporting agencies in getting their In-formation Security Program into compliance with COV laws, policies and standards as needed. In addition, the selected candidates will be exposed to providing guidance to the agency in getting the audit of their sensitive systems completed and analysis of information submitted by agencies for SEC519 and SEC530 compliance in support of COV §2.2-2009. (2 positions)
- The Threat Management and Enterprise Architecture Team is looking for ideal candidates who are pursuing a technical based degree such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Cybersecurity. There are several types of security and architecture internships available. Opportunities in cybersecurity include investigating malicious cyber activities, developing playbooks, performing vulnerability management, or participating in the security governance and risk management process. Enterprise architecture opportunities include contributing to technology strategy, evaluating the environment for technical debt, working on technology standards, and analyzing technology projects. (3 positions)
- The Security Architecture team is seeking a motivated intern to support our cybersecurity team in implementing and optimizing security solutions. In this role, you will assist in designing and evaluating security architectures, as well as implementing best practices in alignment with the Commonwealth of Virginia Security Standards. This position provides hands-on experience in areas such as security assessment, solution analysis, and policy/procedure interpretation. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in cybersecurity architecture, a foundational understanding of security concepts, and a passion for safeguarding organizational assets. (1 position)
Enterprise & Cloud Solutions Interns (2 Positions)
The Enterprise & Cloud Solutions team is looking for two interns.
- The first will be an Artificial Intelligence (AI) intern who will support the team by contributing to various AI use cases, with a primary focus on AI chatbot development and optimization, testing and evaluating AI model performance, assisting with prompt engineering and fine-tuning models, and aiding in the design and implementation of AI-powered solutions. This internship will contribute to the advancement of VITA’s AI initiatives.
- The second intern should have a finance background. This finance intern will support the team’s financial operations by monitoring the consumption of AMCIS (App Modernization and Cloud Integration Services) resources, documenting and updating financial process SOPs, assisting in the preparation of financial reports and analyses, and aiding in budget tracking and forecasting for AMCIS projects. This internship offers valuable exposure to financial management in a technology-driven environment while contributing to the streamlining of our financial processes.
Finance Interns (2 Positions)
These interns will support VITA financial accounting operations and financial systems, data analysis, and reporting. The selected candidates will gain exposure to both accounting and business administration disciplines and will be required to interact verbally and in written form with internal and external customers. The ideal candidates must be organized and detail oriented to support process improvement efforts, understand data and provide analysis and recommendations. Additional consideration will be given to student candidates pursuing accounting or business administration degree, but it is not required for final selection.
Infrastructure Services Intern (1 position)
This intern will be supporting a government IT agency’s effort across a wide range of data projects throughout the organization. This is a cross-functional role and will give the intern a wide variety of opportunities to work with employees from multiple departments. The intern will assist with data analysis, transformation, and integration tasks while gaining hands-on experience in cloud data platforms and IT service management.
Internal IT Department Intern (1 position)
This position will primarily be assigned to the Internal IT team, assisting with business solutions, data analysis, and testing for new initiatives such as developing and supporting the following: AITR Metrics Dashboard; IT Strategic Plan Transformation; Internal App Roadmap Dashboard: VITA Snowflake Data Warehouse, etc. Position will also work to assist team on requests for service and organizing governance processes and documentation. Experience with AI, Machine Learning, Power Platform/Power Apps, and data analytics is desired.
Legal & Legislative Services Intern (1 position)
This position will work with business units across the agency to support public meetings, address compliance requirements, handle FOIA requests, support audit coordination/responses, and analyze procurement, contract, and policy matters. This position would be ideal for someone interested in pursuing law, public policy, political science, or for those with an interest in legal, regulatory or compliance work.
Our internships will start June 2, 2025, and end August 1, 2025. This is a part-time, hourly position. No state benefits will be offered. Hours expected are up to 29 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications
Intern must be at least 18 years of age and be enrolled in a two- or four-year, or graduate-level program.
Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for graduate
student applicants.
Strong communication, presentation, organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
Detail oriented.
Cover letter with top three choices of internships required.
Additional Considerations
Working knowledge of IT concepts/strategy.
Course work or certification in software/program/application development and design.
Course work or certification in accounting, communications or business administration.
Desktop support, web and system testing.
