This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 240 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
The company is seeking a Systems Engineer (Compliance) / Compliance Engineer with relevant experience to join the development team in Sydney, Australia.
The position will report to the Quality Engineering Manager (Sensors & Effectors).
The role is focused on advocating for compliance and testing within the engineering teams and managing the testing of products. You will support the development teams in understanding relevant compliance standards and designing for these throughout the development phases. You will manage the compliance testing process (internal or external) for multiple existing and new products to demonstrate they are fit for purpose and meet all required regulatory standards.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Work with the development teams to ensure products are designed and developed in accordance with applicable industry compliance standards
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation that demonstrates our products are compliant with relevant regulations
- Perform internal pre-compliance testing of products and components.
- Oversee internal and external compliance testing and validation activities including preparing test artefacts and test plans for internal testing and third-party test houses
- Manage the process of obtaining certifications and approval from regulatory bodies for new and existing products
- Continuously monitor changes in compliance regulations and industry best practices
- Support documentation and management of product configurations, identifying when re-certification or compliance issues may arise from engineering design changes.
- Translate compliance standards into actionable systems requirements and ensure traceability of these requirements within the overall product design
- Application of architectural and design skills to decompose the system into a structured hierarchy of requirements and well-defined interfaces.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- BS or Masters degree in relevant engineering discipline (Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering), or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience performing systems engineering or relevant duties with a focus on compliance within complex project environments.
- Hands-on experience engaging with test houses to managing compliance and test programs to certify products within complex regulatory environments
- Experience with compliance standards relevant to the defence technology and RF communication industry (examples include MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, FCC, CE, RCM, IP testing).
- Experience with the systems engineering frameworks and principles across an entire product development lifecycle
- Experience in the successful development and delivery of complex products within a regulated environment.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices in systems engineering to ensure the integrity and security of systems is desirable.
- You are comfortable working within the Atlassian ecosystem and have experience managing project deliverables using Jira or other project management tools.
